Low Voltage Issues
ok .. I have a 94 hatch .. I have a system in it .. now I dont know if having a system has to do with this but .. when I go to turn on my car, sometimes my volts gauge reads a little less than 12 and sometimes 10 volts .. I JUST put a NEW battery in cuz the old one died .. and I know this battery is good cuz we put a battery tester on it and it said 14 volts .. also .. the car stays running after its started and the battery keeps charge well soo I dont think its the alternator .. can someone please give me some ideas as to what to check .. the weird thing is it doesnt happen all the time .. just once and a while Ill come to start up the car and it takes 1 or 2 extra seconds to start it up (depending on where the arm is on the volt gauge) .. thanks for the help :-)
1. Please try to make your thread titles more reflective of what the problem is. I've fixed this one for you.
2. Is there anything that you're doing on the certian times that it's not keeping the charge? Have you checked while the car is on to be sure that the alternator is always charging the battery? If it is, you should read around 14v with the car on. If you have a system, have you checked to be sure that your headunit doesn't always draw current. You should also check your amp/capacitors to be sure that they're not drawing current either. If you let the car sit for a while and then it has problems starting I'd assume it's a current draw from an accessory that hasn't been installed right (headunit, aftermarket lighting, guages, etc).

If you mean a sterio by system try disconecting your amp once and see what that does, there are large capacitors in there that if not working right can drain your battery quickly. You may need a power cap to keep enough juice in reserve if its dropping at certain points.
Also what do you mean by it said said 14v? did you use an volt meter or something specificly for testing the voltage in a car, it should read 14v at idle give or take and 12 or so with the motor off.
Like I said its propably the amp drawing to much current. Try disconecting that once just to check it out and retest everything.
