My, "I'm finally going racing next year" thread with pictures.
The cage is in, most of the interior is in, everything is here, almost ready for the license school. We have to fit the two plastic panels that need to be extensively cut to fit back and to cut the drivers door panel in half to fit over the nascar bar. We'll take care of that next week. http://www.trackmonkeyracing.com/pictures for all the pics.

Awesome, Tom. MiDiv and a few other divisions are talking about tossing SM and Touring together at National races next season, maybe we'll be on track together at some point (until you figure out a way to blow up an STi tranny
).
PS: Are you going to beusing SFI padding on the parts you can hit with body parts? I see the foamy stuff there on the headache bars but I'm assuming that's just so you don't kill yourself while you're climbing in and out of the thing all the time.

Car will be in T2.
Scott - Yup, Robinson cage. They did a great job on it! I'm happy with every single aspect of it. From the kickass dashbar that is inside of the dash, to the fact that the drivers door bar keeps the window glass and we only had to cut the door panel.
Rich - Really? Usually T1 and T2 are together on track and I cannot see T1 and Spec Miata on track at the same time, they have enough trouble with SSB/SSC cars right now. Would be cool as hell to race with you on track though
We are going to get SFI padding for the "impact zones" and the regular foam in other sections to protect the paint a little bit. The foam was pretty much free with the cage and you are right, just on there temporarily for now.

My sickness has progressed to the point that I can look at a cage and identify many of the east coast builders. Often the door bars and/or the mount plates are the tip off.

-Tom</TD></TR></TABLE>Well, the logic, such as it is, is that T1, T2, AS and SSB/SSC are still going to be below 15 cars combined for yer average MiDiv National, and a lot of people think National attendance will be significantly lower than Regional attendance has been in recent years, putting our average SM field at ~15, for a grand, manageable total of 30 cars in that group. Which is baloney, of course, as I know personally 15 guys who will race National races next year for sure, which means another bunch that I don't know personally will be there too.
Mostly just trying to spread the word about this silliness in the hope that more people will write letters.

class rules I'm certain is the response...you can't remove all interior in ss or t1-t2.
beautiful car!!

Ahh okay. Thanks for the tip, I had a feeling that was the answer. Seems like an odd requirement to keep those pieces in.

Yup, class rules exactly. T1 and T2 are basically Showroom stock with a few bolt ons. The only interior panels we can remove or change are the drivers seat and steering wheel, and we can also cut anything that gets in the way of the cage.

"Stock" means "Stock."
The reason you cant remove the interior is you can't go to your local Subaru dealer and buy a new Subaru with no interior.

Nor one with a roll cage, a suede steering wheels sans airbag, etc. - neither here nor there, just another example of insistant litany for its own sake.

a roll cage is "instant litany for its own sake" ?
You're going to have a real tough time explaining that comment without sounding like a dumbass. But feel free to try.

First off, I used the word insistant, not instant.
Second, I was commenting on the rules which state a car must retain its interior, so as to be classified stock (since you can't buy a stripped one at the dealer) but on the same token allows for other, non-factory modifications (airbag delete, steering wheel, roll cage, etc etc etc)
The "litany" I was talking about was the assinine, IMO, rule about the interior.

Oh boy, here we go.
Of course, I'm a total neophyte simply becuase I thought a rule, stipulating that a "race car" retain its rears seats, cupholders and rear interior was a little silly.
Let's go all the way, from now on I propose all race cars carry 2 gallons of milk, a carton of eggs, a stick of butter, some paper towels, toiletries and a passenger in the rear to make sure the car stays true to its "stock" roots and daily utility as a passenger car.
Oh, and should the passenger and /or driver become taxed, the A/C will be retained to cool off the cabin.
Oh boy, here we go.
