Default Flooded By Katrina

i was at the house when the storm was headed towards biloxi. it seemed fine until i saw water outside the street and it kept rising. The water rose to about to half of my hatch. i havent tried to turn to the vehicle on or anything. Is the car totaled? should i flush out all the fluid then try to crank it or what should i do since i dont have full coverage on my insurance

Sorry to hear about that situation dude. Hope you and your fam are doing alright.....

When **** flooded in my godsisters underground parkade, her sol was a total loss. She bought the car back and just swapped it out. If you wanna keep your car dont involve the insurance company.

You will need to completly dry the car before you even turn the key. Remove the battery asap. Your next problem will be from corrosion in the following weeks/ months. All fluids will need to be flushed( probally more than once). Fuel system will need to be completly flushed good. If you're really lucky, it may drive again, but I'd guess if its been submerged for a couple days, chances are slim of no major damage(electrical). Hope you and your family are ok.

Dont think its worth all that hassle. Just get another one and chalk this one up in the loss category

Bah **** it, Ive flooded my prelude, and a mazda protege. All I had to do was dry it all pull of dist cap, check for corrosion. and check fluids. Make sure they are still they. Give it a crank see what it does. It may sputter some, but it probly will turn over.

just draing the oil from teh engione and tranny, then pour some through both engien and tranny. refill both, then drain gasoline and refill when you can.
then make sure there is no water in the intake manifold.
then start it up and let it idle for a few minutes.
drain the oil again and refill.
9 times out of 10 you are gonna be fine.
the thigns that are most likely damaged are the electricals, though you may be very lucky on that.

anyway if you want to know how i know what i said works....i work at a salvage yard that bought an ASSLOAD of cars when Houston got flooded in a hurricane a few years ago. we did that on all teh cars we bought and only had 1 or 2 out of like 20-30 that didnt run jsut fine.

katy is the worst with flooding! I used to work off I10 near fry, and every time it rained I was pretty much stuck where ever I was at. in fact, it was a katy flood that killed my stock engine and made me swap . anyways, good luck with it bro, but if I were you I'd just total it out and start a new project

hey man, take the plugs out and turn the motor over to get any water out of the cylinders, if it got to that point....so it won't hydro-lock the motor

I wouldnt feel confident in that motor after its been totally waterlogged. I'd do a full rebuild if you want to keep it, thats the only way you can be sure everything is OK.

so after checking my car i think i have to replace all my fuses since it was under water for about 15mins. Will the relay box under the hood and dash still work if it was under water? I dont have no power to the vehicle at all. The battery wont even want to jump what could be causing this? could it be a blown battery fuse?
