I am trying to keep my 95 Civic EX as stock as possible for the autocross, what is the best 14" rim tire size for autocrossing? I've been running a 195/60R14 and I've run 185/65R14. I just ripped a sidewall in my current worn out set, so since I'm buying, any sugestions?

For non Rcomp use dunlop makes a 195/55/14 in the sp8000 tire for like 75$. Nobody else does anymore.

 

for the back 205/50R14 R-compounds for the front get some 225/45R14 Hoosier or something like that.

 

Cant go wrong with the 14" azenis either. Even though its fatter than the dunlop 55 series tire, its probably still going to be better for just about anything.

Wrong!

HS and all the stock classes allow DOT approved R tires. And if you want to be competitive then you need to have DOT approved R tires. I am not sure how wide your rims are but if they are 14x6 then a 225 should fit. If they are 14x5.5 then a 225 will be very hard to get on the rim but possible. You probably should go with a staggered setup 225 in front and 205 in the rear

The only non-R tires to consider would be the
Falken Azenis (215 or 615)
and the
Kumho MX

well, here is the other reason, this will also be my summer tires on my daily driver, so that is why I was leaning away from the Rcomp (I looked up the rules, and you are right, as long as they are DOT rated, its all good)

I gues I'm leaning towards the Azenis in a 195/60R14 and I can get the 215's for $47.

What is the difference between the 215 and the 615 other than $25/ea?

 

Yeah I figured as much seeing your previous tire sizes. I'd get the 215's, they're so cheap its a no brainer. I have a set, prolly order another soon.

 

ONly difference between the 215s and the 615s is weight and tread really. The 215s are stiffer because they have steel belts in the sidewalls. Whereas the 615s are lighter because there are less or no steel belts.

Overall they both perform almost the same.

 

I've read that they are discontuned, so if you don't get them soon, they might not be around
