Default Is my tranny dead?

i used a 6 puck act clutch and pressure plate and went to track with street tires, i was on the staging lanes and when the green light turned on and i released the clutch my linkage fell off and the one in the picture was cut-off with my linkage and transmission oil was dripping, do i only need to change the chasing or just buy a new tranny? is there any damage on the transmission besides that one like the gears and other parts in the transmission?

thanks!

Study the diagram below:

http://www.acuraoemparts.com/d...ch=no

Based on the picture you showed you may have broken a bolt that holds the linkage. Shouldn't be too expensive to repair. Who knows it may just be a bolt that came loose. That's what I think given the pic you showed.

Post more detailed pictures of the tranny housing, the damaged shift linkage, and other areas that you think will help clear this up.

At this point I don't see the need for you to change the whole housing. If you have the time drive up here to CT and bring along the tranny. We can meet up at Jinky's during the weekends. There is an Acura dealership nearby who hopefully stocks the parts we need to get this over with and do the repairs in the driveway.

Just to clarify the terms...

I believe it was your extension rod that came off...and not the shift rod.

Do me a favor....look at encircled area and take pics of it...now let me know if you can find a hole with threads in it.

If you can find that...then that means it was just a bolt that came loose. Go to your Honda/Acura dealership and buy the bolts and shims for the extension rod. Put back that tranny...and bolt everything back.

Hope this helps.

you can find a case and swap it.

you will definitely need a case. You should not have any damage inside.

after the gears/ differential come out, you will be able to see the damage.

so i need to remove it piece by piece then?

when i put it back on is there like a particular setup for each piece? like this should be aligned to this and so? or there is like a marking on every piece?

remove this thing at the bottom right first

then, remove this

then take this small gear out. it comes out with the small shaft.

after all that stuff is out. take both of your hands and place them over the shifter forks and gears... about in the middle or so... and lift them straight out.. then place them on a rag or something.

after the gears are out, the differential is next to come out.. these are usally in there kinda tight, so you might have to flip the case on its side, and wack the case or get a large socket, and wack it out.

Before you start taking it apart...try getting a Helm's manual...in case something falls off or you lose track while in the disassembly or assembly process.

Hopefully you can get by with just the case...the cost of repairing the internals of the tranny piece by piece makes it more practical to just buy a used one.

If you need parts like the gearsets and syncros...try checking out gearspeed.

Good Luck with your rebuild

It's funny how your fellow Honda owners from Sigma Auto aren't chiming in at all in this issue. Oh I forgot this isn't the Cosmetic and Appearance forum

the big washer has a "tooth" on it, it faces downward, and fits into a slot on the piece below it.

that is an odd looking piece on there, are you sure its not a part of the shift fork or something?

you have to put the shifter in, so that it fits in the middle of the spot on the shifter fork. align all the shifter forks together, so they all match up where the mechanism fits in. than install the shifter mechanism. the shifter mechanism slides up and down, as well as side to side, depending on which way you move it will determin what gear its in.
