Default 5 mins later...

after installing the "JDM type" 4-1 header with a 2.5" collector on my B18C1...i scraped it.

it was so flipping low.

now, i'm wondering if there's a header that provides the most ground clearance that has a 2.5" collector... perhaps a 4-2-1...is there any?

I have a JDM 4-2-1 (same as usdm i guess, 2.5 in collector) and I scraped it on my driveway first time on the street. Just need to be careful. Weird thing is that it doesn't look super low to me.

if you are worried about scraping then just buy the JDM ITR 4-1. it has a 2.5 collector. and get the skid plate for it so you dont scrape up the header.

You can always get a 4-2-1 header and modify it to have a 2.5" collector. Just cut back from the original collector until you have an area that a 2.5" piece of pipe will fit against (you will probably have to oval it out a bit..)

A lot of guys have done this mod with good results while still keeping the nice ground clearance of the 4-2-1's.

the jdm itr has the worst ground clearance ever on EFs
the ctr header is pretty good for clearance.it is 4-2-1 and has a 2.5 collector..
ANR compact is pretty hot lookin too and has decent clearance

If I'm not mistaken JDM 4-2-1 = CTR header which is what I have.

I'm lowered on nuespeed sports and koni's and still somewhat scrape on speedbumps and pulling out of my driveway which i didn't even notice had a dip in it.

I'm not really complaining, just sayin that something's going to be close to the ground no matter what header you have.

AN-R compact might be the best bet.

no it doesnt, lol. probably has the best clearance of any 4-1 header of "traditional" design. but like i said, get the skid plate and any ground clearance doesnt matter. all you will do is scrape up a plate, not the header.

unless you dent up the plate, which in turn dents up your header.

i'm just looking for something with more ground clearance.

where did you get the CTR header?

I've got the AN-R, plenty of cleareance...actually comes a little TOO close to the oil pan if anything, also I am running a dual core radiatior with my stock fan....so just to give you an idea of how much room there is...it's a lot.

the ITR header from the first few years was a 4-2-1

ITR/CTR > B16a

B16a stock header (if that's the one you have) doesn't hang as low (how much of a difference, I don't know).

the plate is like 1/4" thick, you arent gonna dent the header. and its not RIGHT up on the header, its held away from it a bit i think. the header itself has more the adequit (sp?) clearance as it is. you wont have to wrry about denting it. besides, dont you track your car?

dude it really just depends on the ride height of ur car...i bet everyody whos so confused as to why their scraping probably has their coilovers dumped..yes raising ur car .25 inches can make a world of difference

but, raising the car .25" can play a role in how my car handles.

i really don't drive the car that much, but i don't want to have to worry about scraping the header at full suspension compression either.

but, it seems like the AN-R is the choice to have... plus it seems like it's a good header anyways...
