87 accord with strange a/c problem
I have a 1987 accord lx and I recently changed it over to r134a and it worked fine for about an hour and suddenly stopped working. No leaks and good refrigerant level. After about 100 or so miles it started working again but now it stopped all together, compressor does not engage. Is there a common problem with these cars? Is there a relay I should be looking for? What kinds of tests can I try? Any help would be appreciated.

if it works intermitt yes it could be a relay, located on driver side , rt side of radiator , but it could be a number of other things , a/c clutch gap too wide, bad thermostatic switch located in evaporator, bad high pressure switch, ...
you need to do some diagnostic work when a/c is inop don't just start replacing parts .....
when a/c fails if both fans still work you got a problem on the power side of the system ,,,most common cause the relay, the compressor relay has 4 wires 1 of them is RED ,try tapping on it or do a quick swap with the a/c condensor relay which is located next to it , if compr works u found ur problem ..try this and post it here
As vanilla states if u got a keihin compressor they are the pits , i don;t think at this time it is the compressor causing the problem but even if it is not ur problem at the moment it will cause problem in the future
