i have bad oil leak and ive been trying to find the problem for the past two weeks. im sooo frustrated. ive torn this engine down and put it back together a million times now.

there is oil all over the oil pan so i thought it was the pan gasket. put a brand new one on with hondabond and torqued it to 9 lbs. still leaking. then i notice there is oil everywhere inside the timing belt covers and all over the belt sprokets and cam gear. so i put brand new oem crankshaft seal and camshaft seal on. and its still ******* leaking. its comming out pretty good. but only when i drive it. if i let it sit there and idle for an hour and rev it up, i see nothing leaking.

 

not coming from valve cover gasket either. its brand new with hondabond in the corners.

 

possibly rear main seal, oil sending unit.also if you didnt put hondabond in proper places on oil pan gasket , could be coming from there

rear main is on the other side of the engine. but thats brand new also. im a hondabond freak and its everywhere, i know where it goes. oil sending unit not near the timng belt and its not leaking anyways. remember there is oil everywhere inside my timing covers. you know the covers that go over the timing belt and cover it up.

 

Remove the upper timing cover and take pictures if at all possible. Something may have gone wrong when you installed the cam/crank seals (too far in or damaged them).

Thats really the only thing that could be what leaking unless your headgasket is leaking but thats not really likely.

its gotta be the cam seals. did you make sure you put the cam seals on the correct direction?

this happend to two cars that i know of, replaced cam seals, works fine.

r u kidding? how could you put a cam seal (sohc) on backwards? im not that dumb guys..

 

you can put a cam seal on backward. when looking at the cam seal from the side, it would look like this ] . the open ended part goes facing the motor, the flat part faces the cam gear.

 

could be your headgasket, had a bad oil leak, then shortly later blew my d15.

oem headgasket is a couple miles old, also have ARP head studs. i do **** by the book boys.

 

have ya tried removing the timing cover then running the engine for a while and seeing if it leaks from wherever? also i know theres a dye out there you can buy to put in your oil to determine where the leak is coming from. good luck.

 

spray some damn degreaser on there, clean it up and run the car to see where it comes from

 

i have done that many times. i have taken the timing covers off and let the car idle forever and even revved it up and didnt see ****, but as soon as i actually go and drive and put load on it then there is oil everywhere. i dont get it.
