JDM Type R for sale..
So your saying it's worth $5000? Give me a break!!!! The swap is nearly worth that!
Just because 80% of people out there are to lazy to get it registered doesn't mean that this awesome car is worth nothing! If it was a little beat up and missing **** then I could see $9000 (not registered)!!! But I would say that is a fair price for THAT car!!!!

Woahhhhhhhh..... settle down there. It is obvious that you know little of what your talking about. Where did you get 80% from? Where did you get 'lazy'. I sincerely feel it's not a matter of being lazy that is inhibiting people from purchase RHD vehicles. I feel its more of a matter deing with a lack of knowledge to do so.
I back up my statement with the fact that I thoroughly researched importing cars from Japan, China, U.K., Scottland and various other countries for a solid six months.
Another fact is, right now you can buy that exact car at auction for 5-6K a really nice one....MAYBE 7K. Shipping fees are going to be around $1,500.00 to $2,000.00 respectively, depending on where you purchased the car and where it's going. If you live anywhere else but california you can get the car registered a hell of a lot easier than you think.
I don't know why people think it's so damn hard to do when the fact is, it's not.

Ummmm do you know what I own???? I think I know quite a bit about all of this...hence I own one! You obviously did not get what I am saying because you reiterated what I said! Maybe YOU are in the 20% that actually researched doing it. Well you have to agree that the other 80% want a quick answer and do little about researching what it takes!
For your info I think I know what I am talking about since I have spent 2 years researching it, and I own one and every other day I get someone trying to get every little detail out of me that I painstakingly researched for several years! I am sure I have seen more RHD cars that have been brought into the US than most people, and let me tell you the majority that get brought in are not "A" grade cars! That's cool that you know what wholesale in Japan is, but that doesn't mean anything when someone does not have the means to get a car that way. When someone else does the leg work and actually gets the car here, you can't just expect it will get here and some guy is going to give it to you for what he is into it!!
Mr. Brando I have read alot of your posts and have had no issues with you but look a little deaper (my signature) before you just shoot from the hip and get defensive!
Pretty much everything I said you just backed up!

Importing a JDM ITR for track use in the US would be a good idea, as the ITR is far cheaper in the Japan. However, I'd never pay someone a premium simply because they did the leg work of buying the car in Japan and shipping it to America.
If people are willing to pay the premium, I'm going to start shipping cars to the US.

Well noted.
I guess the only thing I have to say about this is; if so many 'lazy' people are bothering you, perhaps you can turn this into a business and 'be the man that does all the leg work' as you say. You might as well get paid to deal with idiots.
From what I have studied, what the car sales for at the auction is what you pay for it. Little does the buyer know is that the guy bidding on the car for you in Tokyo or where ever, more than likely has a license of some sort that gives him a wholesale price that you never see, and that is where he gets paid for his 'leg work'. Obviously he is not going to buy cars because its his hobby. Is this an incorrect statement?

Well here is the thing. It is VERY hard to find ANY japanese company or person that wants to mess with shipping a car to the US!!! Bottom line! I know most people have seen the sites where they are selling and exporting cars from Japan and some are cheap. Well almost every one I have ever contacted have not been interested in messing with it! It has become worse all the time to get rhds because of how they have been cracking down on the ports! Believe me it is VERY hard! That is where you pay for the "leg work". The "leg work" includes the risk of the container getting here and customs rejecting the container. If they do this there are a lot of fines, and shipping costs there and back are lost! This can cost someone over $15,000+ if customs doesn't like something. So if everyone really knew what it took to get them here then maybe alot of people wouldn't be so inclined to say "oh I saw that 96 ITR on a Japanese web site for $5,000 I wouldn't pay a dollar over the price plus shipping!!!"
Plain and simple it is not nearly as easy as people think!!! In fact it is getting harder by the day! Most of these "R's" that have made it into the country came in before things got tuff. When everyone wakes up and realizes how hard it is getting then they won't be griping about how much they cost!!!
Ask around to people that know and they will tell you the same thing! Registered Importers won't even touch 95% of Japanese cars with 100' poles! Why do you think Motorex is going out of business?!!

This could very well end up being a worthwhile venture then.
Oh, and Motorex went out of business due to an issue within the company.
