Default Tirerack carrying AO48 in a 15"

I just saw that Tirerack is now carrying the Yoko AO48 in a few 15" and 16" sizes now. If this is old news, please ignore, but I could not find anything in the archives.

Has anyone compared these to a RA1?? The price is quite a bit higher, roughly $50 per tire, but if the performance is equal with better wear characteristics, it may be something to look into.

Those tires are for Elises.

I have A048Rs in 205/50-15 (soft compound) that I imported from Japan.

They are grippier than the RA-1s. The sidewalls are also stiffer. They handle heat really well. They hum like A032Rs at speed too - just not as loud (might be the compound - since A032s are MH)

I won't get as many track days out of the A048s though - I can already tell that due to their softness - it ain't gonna happen.

To get the MH compound - you have to get the 215/45-15 size (which i didn't know existed at the time I ordered the tires).

Are you sure there is a 215/45 15? I just went to http://www.yokohamatire.com/advan/default.asp and couldnt find that size. I'd love to run that size on the track if it was available.

My bad - it's a 215/50-15 that's available in M compound

(see Yokohama Tire Japan website)

I'm pretty sure there's only a 205/50 and a 225/50R15 in the A048 M compound. I don't see a 215/50...

are you looking at the Japanese Yokohama website? - that's what I'm talking about

they list a 215/50-15 in supersoft, soft and medium compounds

see here:

They are available - you just need to go through the right channels
