Default Dyno? Testpipe VS. Highflow cat (searched)

i have a 2.5" testpipe and a 2.5" carsound cat. ive looked around for dyno's but the links are always bad.

on a mild n/a setup, how much is gained using a test pipe?

Well on the bigger 94006 Carsound I saw about 2 whp. I don't think you'll see 5whp.

really? its that little of a difference?

i guess its all in my head. i feel better pickup off the line, but i swear im lagging some in the topend... most noticable on the freeway 3rd gear pulls. btw i have a cammed h22, would that make much difference on needing to flow more?

btw dave, what motor/setup were you running when you saw to 2hp gain?

**on a sidenote, i live in cali... if youre caught w/o a cat, is that an automatic ref ticket?

i wouldn't run a test pipe on a street car, unless you don't care about the cops.

i have 2 tickets to take care of simultaneously. ride height/front plate and one for modified exhaust.

No one cares in VA either. Passed an inspection without a cat plenty of times.

Havent had much trouble in CA either, however I know I couldnt pass smog.

I got checked if i had a cat when i just had my Apex-i N1! It pissed me off so much because the cop made me get out of my car!

But other than that i have had no other bad experiences

chances are slim... ive never actually been pulled over with the intention of checking my exhaust system... but it only takes one time. and i dont think im willing to risk it. if i get reffed, im done for sure.

but hopefully dave will chime in again. if the gains are enough ill find a way to get a heatshield and just weld it to cover the testpipe. if not, ill just run the cat.

u shud gain more with a testpipe not much but itll help especially if ur flowin a lot of air in and out

u shud lose low end but gain top end once velocity starts workin

youll be a lot louder too, some like it some dont. i love it, its the sound of REAL NA POWER
