. Tomorrow i am going to take delievery and do all the paperwork. I dont want to be scammed so I just want to ask you all about what type of paperwork should I see and sign tomorrow. How does the title work? Who signs where? WHat about bill of sale? When do I get insurance? Inspection? What should i need in order to get tags? I'm soo Noob at all this, its my first big purchase and i want everyhing to flow legally without any problems.
Also, as far as getting a licsense... do i get a permit first? do i have to go to bike school to get a permit. Someone please break it down to me, your fellow rider would appreciate every input. Thanks guys!

Alright, to get a permit you just need to go to a DMV and take a written test. The only restrictions are that you can't ride at night or with a passenger. To get your endorsement you need to pass a written test and a riding test (using a bike you provide). If you take the MSF (motorcycle safety foundation) class you get to use their bikes, and they let you practice the course, and train you. Deffinitely take MSF.
Are you going to transport the bike in a truck when you get it?
You'll also want to set aside money for proper gear. I'd suggest getting a jacket, helmet, gloves, and boots. Maybe get zip in pants, or a 1-piece suit. But the other stuff is good.
There should be a bill of sale, it could just be a piece of notebook paper with both your signiatures saying that he's selling BLANK for BLANK amount of money.
Then there's some type of DOL paperwork to sign the title over. I think it's different in other states, but in WA i had to get a form from the DOL that requires an odometer reading, and everyone's signiature.
I suggest you go to your local DOL.
You get insurance as soon as possible, as it's probably illegal not to have it where you're at. And depending on your age/record it could be cheap, or really expensive.
I don't know about inspection, i haven't heard anything about anything like that.
When you register any vehicle, they mail you tabs.

another thing that would help is to get a notary on top of the bill of sale. but yeah, do all the things that have already been mentioned and get some good gear. insurance too if you can.
thanks a lot for all responses guys, today i went up there with all of my money, and the guy wasnt there. His wife was like ok, here is the title, keys to the bike and bill of sale. So i look at the title, and the owner ( the husband) is supposed to sign on title and bill of sale, then stamp it with notary stamp, so I go.. "where is the hubby?" wife says oh he is at work! I say... well, i aint signing anything unless he signs bill of sale, back of the title and we notarize it. She says, Oh! well im a notary i work for the bank i can do it! I was like hell no lady... when I see ur hubby and we go sign the title, and bill of sale verified by the real notary, I'll hand you the cash and take the bike deal? She said yee its cool. So i left. So im supposed to go there again next week and meet with hubby who i'm gonna take to notorious and we gonna do all the paperwork there. Whats your input on this guys???

It's easy to get excited about getting a new toy and going with the flow(or the shaft for that matter). Having your eye on the prize can cause you to miss important details. Nice job not letting your emotions get the best of you.
