'88 Accord LXi: Engine; Low Power/"Chuging"
At the moment basically undrivable. Early on I thought I could smooth out the problem with a gas additive. I had a pint of "Mystery Oil" nearby so I put it in the tank. Things just progressed for the worse so I installed new plugs, new plug wires, new distributor cap, and rotor. Air filter is 5 months old, F/I's 18 months old. No change. My gut says it's starving for air... especially since the exhaust smells like raw gas. What do you know? Much appreciated. Ray
First off the Mystery Oil, which is a mystery if it ever worked, just messed up your O2 Sensor, if not plugged your EGR valve, or your control coil, or even your fuel injectors...Good Luck....

I have the same problem with my 89 Accord DX.
A friend had the same problem with his 86 Accord and had a mechanic change the Carb 3 times before he junked the vehicle. I'm not interested in spending that much and not fix the problem. Someone once told me that Accord years 82 - 89 had these fuel intake problems. Is there anyway to troubleshoot if it is the Oxygen sensor or the carburator?

is it an auto trans or a manual trans? i had this problem, and it was my auto trans failing.
check your: EGR valve, fuel injectors, O2 sensors, fuel lines, air intake pipes, computer (for codes), and the entire vacuum system for leaks. come back with what you find.

his car does not a a carb problem cause it is fuel injected............. Yo Ray
Do as vanilla suggested chk for codes if any post them here i believe the ecu is located under the frt seat but cannot recall which 1 ,,..
chk for vacc leaks, chk pcv valve, do a compression test as well ,never hurts to do one , post all results
