00 Type R with 55,000 on the clock, Need for timing belt/ water pump/ etc. ??
I took my car to my mechanic today after it was making a ticking noise.. I thought it just needed a valve adjustment, but he said the excessive noise was coming from the accessory belt and it needed a change...
My question is whether or not I should go ahead and replace the water pump, all drive belts (timing, ac, accessory, drive), and have the valve adjustment done as well ?? My car is a 00 and it has 55,000 on the clock.
ALso what do you guys think of the pricing:
Timing BElt $65
Water pump $90
VAlve Adjustment $60
Acc Belts $40
Installation $100
I live in Southern CAlifornia by the way

You are coming up on 60,000. Better to replce everything now since your mech looked at your car.
At 60K, I would replace the timing belt, all drive belts, water pump, any seals in that area, and that also should include a valve adjustment.
Also since you are near 60K, do the 60K service, drain all fluids and replace with fresh stuff, clean adjust brakes, rotate tires, lub the window tracts, any other items that need to be looked at or a concern wil be addressed at that time. Also check out your CV boots also. Brake fluid really doesnt need to be replaced, but wont hurt if you have extra moo lah to have that flushed and replaced also.

It's worth considering what the owner's manual and service manual say. (If you decide to change certain things sooner, that's up to you.)
The manuals recommend that the timing belt and water pump be replaced at 105K miles or 7 years, whichever comes first, even under severe driving conditions. (Actually, it recommends that the water pump be inspected, but most folks replace it when they replace the timing belt because it's mostly the same labor anyway, and as long as you're in there...) So these would not be due for a while, according to the recommendations in the manual.
It recommends inspecting/adjusting valve clearances every 30K miles or 2 years, whichever comes first. If you've never done that, it's WAY overdue.
It recommends replacing brake fluid every 45K miles or 3 years. However, I disagree with that recommendation. Over time, brake fluid absorbs moisture and loses performance. I recommend that the brake fluid on any car be replaced at least once every 2 years, and any time you're going to use your car in any kind of motorsports activity (racetrack, dragstrip, autocross), at least once in the previous 6-8 months. I hope you've already flushed your brake fluid in your car, but if not, you're WAY overdue, as you can see.
Rotating tires at 60K?
Tires should be rotated no less frequently than halfway through their treadlife. I don't know anyone who gets 120K miles to a set of tires on an ITR!
Keep track of when you last rotated them, and do it again. Or, if (like me) you go to a lot of track events and swap tires frequently, just keep putting the ones with more tread on the front every time you put them back on, and that will even out the wear.
