First-gen crx, noob susp/brake/swap ?'s
I'm kinda new to this honda thing, but from what I understand, the suspension and brakes from various hatchbacks, crx's, civics and integ's are virtually interchangable. My buddy just bought a 93 hatch shell and put a sohc d16 into it with integ brakes. That sounded like a good, affordable motor and brake swap for an 85 crx that I can get a pretty smokin' deal on. I know that there ARE differences between the first-gen cars and second-gen, but I can't seem to nail down anything specifically. What are my options for suspension on this car? Is the integ brake swap as easy on this chassis as later ones? How difficult is the d-series motor swap? Why do people hate the first-gen chassis so much, besides the fact that it's kinda ugly? I want a fairly affordable, all-around balanced car... I don't wanna run 10's, but I want something that handles great, brakes well, and accelerates decently. Bling isn't a factor, I just want a clean, fun daily. Any advice you can give would be greatly appreciated.
first-- the first gen CRX is NOT ugly! (my opinion)
folks dislike this chassis because there aren't as many mods available...and it isn't as technologicly advanced as the 88-91 models. most are 12 valve engines and are carbureated except the Si models. you may be able to use 1st gen teggy parts on 84-87 rex....tho i am not sure about this...ask others if this is possible or even worthwhile.

you can use damn near everything off of a 1g teg. redpepperracing has been down for a bit now, im slowly losing faith that it will be back. but the 1g crx rocks, from the factory the hf weighs around 1700 lbs. if you want to put the teg rear axle on the rex you just change the trailing arms.

I am worried that it may not be back up either
. Great site too.
But yes 1g easiest swap is the 1g Integra motor from 86-87 (only) if you do 88-89 it will require wiring changes.
1g Integras rear disc will work with the CRX heard you need to take off the assembly and switch this and that around. Can't say for sure since I never did it.
1g 84-85 with the recessed lights were pimp.
Make sure you get the SI model. DX takes a **** load of work to get different engine in it.
PS. https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1350467 bunch of 1g stuff for sale!!!

Yeah the 86-89 Integras are basically bigger versions of the Civics/CRX's back in those days.
All the suspension pieces from the 86-89 Teg will swap over to all 84-87 Civic/CRX's.
the 86-87 Integra D16A1 will bolt directly in them as well, but unless you have a 86-87 Si Wiring harnesses will be needed.
the 88-89 D16A1 will bolt into them as well but again unless you have a 86-87 Si Wiring will be needed, and on this version of the A1 even if you do have a Si you will still need to modify the harness for that motor.

Yes sir they did. 84 was the only year a CRX had no option for fuel injection (in the US anyways).
If you got a 84-85 CRX it is easier to just use the 85 CRX Si wiring since it will pretty much just drop in.
The 85 and the 86-87 CRX SI wiring is slightly different on I think like 3 plugs.
