Deck resets itself when I start the car
It used to happen every time I started the car, my Eclipse deck would reset itself, lose all the radio station presets, etc. The clock in my dash never lost the time, however.
I found that my negative battery terminal wasn't completely tight, I tightened it and that seemed to help. But now the problem is back.
What could it be?

low capacity in your battery? could be when you start your car, the cranking power is lowering your voltage to a low level?
maybe a bad connection from the neg batt terminal to chassis.

some cd players have a battery in the deck itself, and if that dies that will happen.
i dunno why that is, check ur manual see if it has one, if not try grounding the cd player to some metal, not using the cars black ground cable.
if you already have it like that, try wiring straight to batter like he said

It is the yellow wire, let me ask you this, do you lose memory only when you start the car or do you also lose it if you just turn off the ign. and then turn it on, without trying to start the car, eg. if you get in the car in the morning an just turn on the ign., [do not try and start the car] has the HU "reset itself" or does it not do that until you try and start the car?

It only does it when I crank the starter. Not when I turn it off, not when I turn it back "on." And it only does it sometimes. I'm thinking it's a weak battery, since it doesn't seem to do it after a long drive - only after the car has been sitting for a while or has had some drain. My next move is to have it tested, I just gotta get off my *** and do it.

Yea that does sound like a batt., [low currant] problem. Most places that sell batt./alt. will do a check for free.
Also, because the oem constant power in the oem radio harness was only for memory for the stock HU, in most cases there is not enough currant there for today's aftermarket HUs, what we do in our shop is run a fused 10ga or 12ga from the batt. to behind the HU and connect the constant power, [yellow] to it, just like you would do to power an amp.

im telling you partner... chances are its a weak battery.... i had the same exact problem. I have the CD3434 and my deck was losin power because of a weak battery that couldnt get itself out of maintinence mode... you either need to charge to get a new battery otherwise you will have this problem all day...
Just an idea - do you think the draw from my amp is causing the battery to charge slower on short drives? It's an Eclipse that's fused at 50A. I don't crank it but sometimes I turn it up a bit.

No it shouldnt. But check you fuse that goes to your amp. If you have one you should just run a big 30a fuse. Just run a wire from your batt. to the head unit. If theres a problem after you do that then its the hu.
