Default Anyone else ever done this...

I was changing a bulb yesterday and removed the coolant overflow bottle and left it resting beside the headers, changed the bulbs and closed the hood. I drove about 5 miles and got a burning smell, so i stopped and black smoke was pouring out of the hood vent...I realised immediately what had happened, popped the hood and lo and behold the friggen bottle had melted completely all over the header....**** i was mad with myself....not because i should have remembered to put the bottle back again but because this is my 4th DC2 and i have managed to do it on every one of them! Luckily i was at a scrap yard a few months back and got the bottle from a crashed integra as i knew i probably would need it at some stage...I need to look out for another one now...just in case

That's harsh!!! Did it damage the header in any way?

On a side note, I am planning on relocating the overflow to the other side so it's not in front my J's intake. Heat soak sucks

There was melted plastic all over cylinder #4 header piping but it wiped off easily when it still hot, so no damage thankfully.

Been there. done that. Bad smell when driving... blech!!

I used a mtn dew bottle for a long, long time. Mostly b/c I could not find a resevoir for a reasonable price, or from someone who would actually follow through on shipping the item after being paid. (yes im still overly annoyed at this, heh) I finally got one when I was planning to sell my car... I kept the mtn dew bottle
