The gsr bearings are constructed better. It probably isn't necessary for a street engine.I'd save the money for some better rods.

DO NOT RUN LS BEARINGS!!! use ACL or b16 pr3 bearings on your rods and mains. its tri metal vs. bi metal

Damn the HT hype continues lol.....Everyone who doesnt have a lsvtec will say "use the gsr bearings, they are better, you need them or jesus will hate you" but talk to the people that own an lsvtec and have had it for many thousand miles with a totally stock bottom end (you also dont need a "vtec oil pump". And no I dont speak out of my ***, I run a stock bottom end b20z in a b20vtec crx everyday with over 6k miles hitting 8k rpm regularly with absolutely no problems. So I highly doubt your rod bearings are going to make a difference, but lets hear some arguements about how your "boys" motor blew up with a stock bottom end lol

Why would a B20 come with a VTEC Pump

Because its the same part from the factory on the newer bseries motors.

No..

Honda realized the VTEC oil pump performed better for both platforms, so why not equip the nonvtec engines with them as well?

I would say use the ACL or b16's like someone else said. ACL's are really priced well and so far have been outstanding bearings for everyone here on H-T. They also use the tri-metal construction like OEM GSR.

I guess you have never seen a B-16 bearing then. Or had both in your hand at the same time.

I remember when the 3rd gen. GSR came out in 94--when Car & Driver previewed the car--(in like late 93) there was a whole article in the mag. about how the b18c bearings were different from anything honda used up to that point. I don't remember it word for word--but basically they said the b18c bearings-had microscopic "pyramids" in the bearing surface, that were designed to hold oil at high rpm--(their other "standard" bearings had no such "pyramids") which the b17 or regular b18a and b18b motors did not have. I don't know if they were bimetal or trimetal--but Honda was looking at it from a durability standpoint. They were selling an 8200 rpm (long stroke comparitively) motor that had to last at least 150,000 miles. Its probably not necessary in a motor that is going to go 50,000 max. between rebuilds--others with LS/vtecs know better than I do though.....just a thought.

Waste of time and money. I've been running my LsVtec build with stock rod bolts and new oem bearings for the last 20k and i have had no problems what so ever. I rev to 8500rpm's almost every day and my engine is still running healthy. The only reason people use ACL bearings is because they are cheaper than oem. If you think that gsr bearings are going to make your LsVtec last longer, you are wrong. Just build it right and it will last even with oem parts.

i had my ls rods re notched to run the narrorer gsr/itr rod bearings with the oem special coating on them
i always thought that ls and b16 rod bearings were the same. its the gsr/itr they have the narrow rodbearings with coating on them
