Default how hard would it be to make this work?

i was at a buddies house and he was showing me a few things that he was thinking about buying for his eg hatch... one of the things that caught my attention was this:

heres a shot of one in a '96 hatch:

they only make these for eg's and ek's but i was wondering what all would have to be done to make this fit into the back of my '91 hatch... thanks guys

i personally think they're a gimick.

Then again, i like my trunk space so i'd never even consider that even if it worked.

Twisting forces rear of the shock towers are negligible. Even if there were forces, they would be vertically directed. Not laterally.

....wich is why a cage does not have floor bars.

...or maybe that's why they're flawed. You need floor bars in addition to a cage!!!!
Ask yourself this, while looking at a race car.

i plan on using the car for auto-x and possibly some road racing at mid ohio in the near future and i was wondering if this would help stiffen the back up at all... i was just looking at it as a rear strut tower bar with some additional bracing... plus i have a battery in the trunk and dont really use it for anything else... would it be benefitial if i were to weld all the pivot points once i get it installed?

i had a similar bar system in my 91 si hatch, i drove around with it for several months, then decided to remove it for space.
i didnt notice any performance difference at all!!!
and my car rattles alot less!

not a worth while mod in my opinion.
but it did give me a really cool place to mount my zex bottle in the center of it.

O no definatly get it man, with a stock suspension and that bar at a local AX i think you will save at least 8 or 9 seconds. Just get a 4 point cage and have them weld in a bar across the strut towers.

who ever said that i have a stock suspension setup? well if koni yellows w/ coilovers (450/lb. front and 400/lb. rear) a 3 point front strut tower bar, suspension techniques rear sway bar, and soon to be full energy suspension bushing set stock well then i guess i am... so far the car isnt where id like it to be but its getting there... i was just looking for a way to stiffen up the back end without having to put in a cage just yet as i still take it out on the street every now and then and im not a big fan of rollcages on streetcars ... thanks a lot guys and keep the input coming

-Josh</TD></TR></TABLE> O **** you got konis!! Wow man if you get that bar now i think it will save at least 12 seconds at the AX. the 8-9 second quote was only for stock. By the time you get the ES bushings in your car will be so fast they wont even let you compete.

stiffening the rear trunk area is not going to do anything positive for you. if anyone believes it does, id like to hear what they have to say.

alright thanks a lot... this is the sort of answer that i was looking for... i just thought that stiffening up the chassis, no matter what part, would give the driver better feedback... thanks a lot once again
