Has anyone else taken there evap system out?
Well after recovering my car from thieves i have totally rebuilding it stripping it down to the shell, When i put it back together i completely remove the evap system. All lines have been remove and i also removed the ORVR That sits on top of the tank capped it of and welded the two lines on the fuel fill pipe shut.
I noticed i get a heavy fuel vapor smell now when driving, mainly right after a fillup. (I have no rear interior either)
Now i know the the ORVR is the vent shut valve for the tank so it would make sense that it might be the culprit but my question is
-dont older hondas and all cars for that matter come without a ORVR mainly just the sender and the pump and a close fuel fill pipe like mine?
I have checked and there are absolutely no fuel leaks
Has anyone else removed there evap system and if so to you get a gas smell
I could understand a slight smell because of the elimination of a system that basic controls vapors but i seem to have a have smell like i am dumping fuel on the floor
ANY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED

yea pretty sure I got a helms book handy so i used the component location index for the evap system.
I will definitly double check but - it would be nice if it was something silly
I know for a fact i left the large pipe that runs from the front to the back of the car. but it is disconnected on both sides so i dont think that should matter. I left it in there cause i was too lazy to open up the cage it sits in with the brake lines, fuel feed and return lines.

there's a charcoal canister that helps get rid of the smell
i'm sure older cars have this as well - since it's pretty low tech
I have the same problem on my car since I had the Endyne breather kit installed
i just live with it and drive with the windows down

if you took off the line that runs from the tank to the front of the car, then you might be leaking fuel at the tank. thats a vent for fumes. hope you converted to OBD-I too, or i bet you have several CELs

I also have this same problem...What is it anyway? Do you think running the vac line back into the intake track will help?
Its a little unnerving since a few years ago a friends car had that same smell and then one day it blew up in front of the house... It was a 94 Vigor I think

Fix that ASAP. Fuel vapor is extremely combustible; it does not take much to ignite it. You are driving a bomb just waiting to go off.
you dont need to remove any lines or cap anything off to remove the EVAP system. LEAVE THE FUEL VENT PIPE ALONE and just disconnect the sensors/valves and take out the canisters. I actually attached another hose to my fuel vent pipe and routed it to the back of the engine bay and exits under the car in the stock location where the canister used to vent. and yes you will have CEL 81 if you are on your stock OBD2 ECU.

thats what i did, disconnected the plug, then disconnected the hose and plugged it, after traveling through both canisters it should exit underneath.

if you're obd-1, then it doesn't work anyways, so why not take that heavy, unsightly stuff out?
