Camshaft break-in procedure, is synthetic oil bad...........
hey guys, i've got skunk2 pro 1's going in today and researched some info on h-t to find out that letting the car idle at like 1500-2500 rpms for 20-30 mins is the break-in method, but i also read some people not recommending the use of synthetic oil, but using dtergent non-synthetic oil. I have some fresh mobil 1 in the motor right now with $20 (CDN) slick 50 oil additive and just wondered if i should drain this asap or if it will be suitable.
Any information is great

Slick 50 is garbage, mobil1 oil is fine, cams dont break in like piston rings. You can use a good cam lube, or just soak the cams in some synthetic oil before you install them
Also remove your spark plugs, disconnect your dist. and injectors, and turn the motor over with the starter until you have good oil pressure. Then after checking the belt tennsion and timing marks, start it up.
i really dont know what the break in procedure was but i know that the moment i installed my cams, i started the car for 5 mins, then drove it for half an hour just crusing and i just hit it hard from then...so far so good an ive been lucky enough that nothing bad has happen yet
this is what I would go by, read this on cranes website
What Engine Oil and Lubricants should I use?
Crane Cams does not recommend the use of synthetic oils during the initial break-in period for a new camshaft. Use a good quality grade of naturally formulated motor oil during this period. If you choose to use synthetic oil after the engine has been broken in, change the oil filter and follow the oil manufacturer's instructions.
When using either regular oil or synthetic it is important to pick the weight oil that best matches your engine bearing clearances, the engine's operating temperature, and the climate the vehicle will be operating in. Use the oil manufacturer's recommendation to satisfy these conditions. Crane Cams offers lubricants to aid during the critical break-in procedure, and to prolong the engine's life.
