Flex pipe replacement options, 94 vtec
The engine side of my flex pipe has worn itself away completely, which makes my car loud as hell and smell terrible. So obviously, I'm looking into fixing this. The options I've come up with so far:
- get an exhaust shop to weld a new flex pipe on
- get a cheap **** header from greddy or dc sports or something
It should be noted that performance gains aren't an objective here. I need an something that would be able to be done quickly, hopefully within a few hours. I'd need to pull the lower header pipe to have the exhaust shop weld a new flex pipe on, which isn't really to appealing to me.
As to the second option, what's a good (quality-wise) header for my prelude? It should (obviously) include the flex pipe, but I'd think that all replacement headers would.

A flexpipe alone costs around $50-$70 + labor, which isn't a bad option. You can pick up a used DC for about the same cost. Or replace it with something better like a Greddy. Greddy is not a <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by The Phil »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">get a cheap **** header from greddy or dc sports or something</TD></TR></TABLE>, it is the best off the shelf header you can get.
Based on what you've said though, it sounds like a used DC fits the bill. You get a little better performance over stock and it costs about the same as welding in a new flexpipe.

I wouldn't class it as exactly the BEST off the shelf header, but if it's up there, I wouldn't mind dropping the $400 for it. So maybe I wasn't completely truthful about performance not mattering. Would it be worth the extra $300 though?

Granted SMSP, Hytech, DTR, and others make "off the shelf" headers, though I still classify any header that costs more than $800 as custom.
In the sub $400 category Greddy is a good way to go. I think someone is selling a used Greddy on this site for $250, do a search in the classifieds, it might be in the For Sale sticky (I can't remember).

Great, I'll check it out.

I just got mine welded in. It was 100 to be done and took them 30 min.
I was looking at a header, but I don't really want to try and unbolt my stock setup. Its from canada and the bolts are rusted round.
