Default Go back to stock wheels????

Hey, currently i've got a set of rota slipstreams with falken tires on my crx...they look great, but I've looked at pics of lowered crx's with stock wheels and they look great too...So now I'm thinking about going back to them and buying new tires. Suggestions?

I was thinking I could sell those wheels and maybe donate alittle money to the Hurricane efforts..

All depends on what kind of 14" tires you'll be looking for. A good set of 14" perf tires will probably run your $400 mounted/balanced.

But selling parts off your car and making a donation is admirable.

Well I was just going to buy another set of Falken ZE 512's to fit the 14's which should be about $200...I just really like that "sleeper" look I guess...

stock 14" are only 5" wide. kinda skinny. barely fit 195's on.

but i got 2 sets of 88 Si alloys for sale. $50 without tires, $150 with tires.

They are narrower than most aftermarket wheels.

This a hatch i know, but i really like the way 99-00 Si wheels look.

If any company is out that can do it, would so buy a set of 15x7 Si replicas wheel , regardless of weight.

My only issue with running the stock wheels is their weight vs size: 14x5" and 17lbs

I would run a set of Civic HX wheels at 14x5.5" and 11.75lbs but I've never found a set cheap enough for my taste.

So I use 94-97 Miata wheels at 14x6" and 11lbs.
They're easy to find and relatively cheap. You will need to get hubs bored out at a machine shop (about $40).
I have a second set of Miata wheels from the 90-93 that I use on my Civic wagon. At 14x5.5" and 12 lbs they're even cheaper then 94-97. I see sets going for around $100-150 all the time.

I like to run a 195-55-14 tire...it keeps the overall diameter stock and allows you to put a little more width on the rubber. Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of tires available in that size. I have Bridgestone RE-71 tires right now which are out of production. Thats a shame because they're an awesome street tire.
There's also the Dunlop SP8000, which is pretty good but showing its age. My next set is going to be the Toyo T1-s or whatever model is replacing them. I just finished with set of the Toyo Proxes4 on my Protege and have nothing but good things to say about them.

If you're looking to go ultra cheap in the 14" range. I've repeatedly been impressed with the 185-60-14 Kumho ECSTA 716. $37 at Tirerack. For a cheap *** tire, they perform remarkably well and last a helluva long time. I've had two sets now and will keep ordering them when I need a good cheap tire.

Tires I've hated or at least disliked...
Bridgestone RE-92, Michelin XGT-4, Dunlop SP4000, Kelly-Springfield Chargers

Here's a question: When you have wheels with a larger diameter mounted, don't you need to make some sort of adjustment to your speedometer, etc?

Why do you guys worry so much about weight, i run on 30 pound(with tires 52 pounds) wheels sometime at autocross. the car is generally top 5 overall with the heavy wheels. If it not effecting me 6 pound a difference in wheel wont matter.

Yeah your speedo reads slower if you OD of your tire is larger than stock, i never follow speed limits anyways so its nto really a problem for me.

If you took your 52lb wheel/tire combo and switched to a 40 or even 30lb setup, you would feel the difference.

I switched from stock wheels with Azenis to the Miata wheels with Bridgestones...noticeable difference in the off the line acceleration.

i cant stand how the HX wheels look like even tho they are light. i run a 15" wheel at the minimum because of brake clearance issues, but ive done touge and auto x and i still have to say that using a 205-40-16 give me the better feel and response that i like. when im using my ls mesh with 195-50-15 i feel like they tend to make the car a lil loose when i dont want it to be.

I say get the hx's if you want to downgrade you wheels. You want smaller, and the hx's are defintly smaller. Although I didn't like them you may. I just spun them so damn easily it wasn't funny... but hey, you like what you like. And with the HX's your car will still look like a sleeper.
