Default RPM tach goes crazy when i start the car?

Ok, i go to start the car and immediatly the rpm tach goes crazy (bouncing all over the place) and the motor dies all of the sudden. Seems like it only does this when i first start it up.. if i let it warm up it starts to act normal and the motor runs fine. Its only when its cold i guess, anyone know what this could be?

Might be ignition module failure symptoms.

when my alternator was bad it would cause the batt to be low and my car wanted to die and my tach would do that

I called well known reputable local shop and they said it could be as simple as a wire being pinched or a lose connection.

im gonna check it out tonight, but i appreciate you guys helpin out

also another thing the car does that i didnt mention before, sometimes when i go to start it.. it starts real slow.. i turn the key and the engine starts at around 100rpms and slowly goes to where it should normally idle. ? i thought that was really weired.. would an alternator do that ?

turns out it was the speed sensor, i have a obd2 speed sensor in my tranny and the obd1 clip (obd1 wire harness) wont completely click into the obd2 speed sensor but if i zip tie it down... works fine and the tach doesnt go crazy, but... i still cant tell how fast im going but im guessing thats because its an obd2 speed sensor

another update, so it wasnt the speed sensor. I finally had a chance to take it out after i swaped speed sensors and that wasnt the problem.. it still was acting up. So I took apart the distributor and sure enough some of the wires were lose and had melted. So im probably just going to tape up the wires and run it for now, dont have any money to get a new one thats for sure.
