Vinyl Decal Number Plate - Ill Effects?
I am thinking of putting a vinyl decal number plate on my car for SCCA time trials. How hard would it be to remove them down the road? Will there be any ill effects to the car by putting these on and potentially taking them off/changing them in a year or more?
whatever you do, stay away from magentic ones. my brother did some work for a company and ran the magnetic logo on his car...it screwed up his paint. i dont know how it was affected, but i wouldnt want to find out on my R.
Just keep your car in a garage or under a cover whenever possible. Sitting under direct sunlight for LONG periods of time will leave a mark.
Lucky-R - do you know what type of magnetic? I use magnetic on a few customers cars with no problems.

Most importantly make sure you have a fresh coat of wax on the car before applying the decals. You should be fine though, I've had stickers on my car for a year plus and then taken them off w/o any ill effects.

Having a sticker on out in the sun will cause the paint to fade and the paint under the sticker will not. Thats the only negative impact of vinyl.
The magnet thing is that dirt and grime is able to collect under the magnet, any movement of the magnet will cause scratches.

Yea that what I meant but I was doing a quick response
And yes, Chris brought up a good point. Wax the car!
I'll try to get some pics up of the vinyl I threw on my dad's business car

You have any idea how long it takes for the paint to fade around stickers?
lol
Its extremely long. Even on shitty Honda paint.
I would do magnets though. They dont mess up your paint as long as you make sure you dont slap them on and they have small rocks stuck to them and stuff

HT member "Nishant" supplied some numbered sticker plates for Expo 5.
I don't recall anyone having problems applying or removing them.
I guess you can IM him for more information.

I know it takes awhile, that's the only negative thing I could come up with. Although different colors will take longer to show.
I still wouldn't do the magnets. Go get yourself one of those support our troops magnets and put it on your car for a week of driving, then remove, you'd be surprised how much crap can accumulate.
