Default Oh no you have my license plate number!

Ok, so i have seen plenty of pictures with their license plates blurred out or covered when taking pictures of their cars. I even see some people take the plates fully off the car for pictures.

BUT NO ONE, can honestly explain to me the exact reason this is done for.
I just read that, "thieves may have your license plate, but still would be hard to track the car down for location"

so i want to no, how exactly, can knowing someones license plate, lead you to that car? or city? or anything?

thanks!

i know a guy who works for police dispatch.

if i wanted to give him a tag number he could give me the registration info.

if i was a thief this would help me greatly.

this is why people do that.

wrong forum btw

u say u no a guy that "works for a police dispatch"

so if u gave him a license plate number and he gives you the reg info is pretty much illegal,
or is it not?

and besides that, not everyone knows someone who is a police dispatch

thats why im asking,
if someone random sees a car they like and writes the license plate number
what can they do with it?

like i said, not everyone knows a police dispatch or police officer

I am sure it's illegal, but I have used a plate number to figure out who someone is.

The answer to this non-technical question has been adequately answered, so I'm closing this thread.
