I was checking my timing on my mini me I just built and this is my first timing belt install. When I line up the crank pulley so that the notch thats alone (white) is lined up with the two marks on the lower timing belt cover the cam gear is off. I'm almost positive that my cam was off anyway when I put the timin belt on, but how do I get the crank pullley on there so I know that the block is at TDC without taking the head back off?
Take timing belt off, spin the crank pulley to tdc. Remember never force the crank pulley to turn. Then turn the cam to tdc, also never force it. Then slip on the belt.
I have been doing this in the past few days trying to get timing set and what not, its not easy, specially when you have to take the timing belt slack into consideration. More then likely you are going to have to set them both off, then when the timing belt gains tension, it will pull them a little and line them both up.
You can also take the spark plugs out and this makes it a lot easier to turn the engine over by hand.

Ugh I just got the block to TDC, crank pulley is lined up and i put a screwdriver inthe #1 cylinder and it was at the highest point. I slipped off the timing belt, and the cam gear was off somewhere around 180 degrees even tho when I put the head on and the timing belt on originally it was only off maybe a tooth. Is this posssible? When I try to turn the cam it doesnt move.
