Default 2005 acura rsx s vs. 2006 acura rsx s, there's a difference!

Today at work i got bored and decided to look up the new 06 acura rsx s. What i found was that the 06 model has lost 9 hp and 3 lb. tq dued to a new sae standard and also gained an extra 71lbs in weight. I also noticed that the powertrain warranty has been increased for an additional 24 months and 20,000 miles. Is it because the 05 motor wasn’t built as well as the 06 and had to sacrifice the power to with hold the warranty? Is that why there is a reduction in power?
There are also various other changes, which are not as important, such as headroom, and color matching options.
If anyone knows anything about this difference, please reply to my post, before i make the decision to purchase the wrong year. For all questions, concerns and answers please reply.

it hasn't "lost" any power, just a change in the way it is reported/stated. big deal right?

there are tighter emission standards coming up in a couple of years that will probably have manufacturers taking a hit in terms of engine output.

acura might have already made the changes to their 06 range, honda likes to stay a couple years ahead of mandatory changes anywho

but thats my guess

I am looking at the 05 and 06 brochure and the weight has stayed the same. I see the warranty has been extended, but where are you seeing the weight changing?

that has nothing to do with it at this point. acura and some other manufacturers are now listing horspower at some SAE rating. it is the "same" performance.

there has been more than enough threads on here to show that they are only using an sae corrected number. the 06 is just as fast as the 05. had they not used the sae corrected number, the 06 would show the same numbers as the 05. from what i read in past threads about this subject is that when calculating power, they take into consideration more variables than before. but as far as loosing hp and torque, it hasnt lost any. i have no idea about the weight issue. apparently everyone is going to have to give into this and start using corrected numbers. this is all info that i gathered from this forum on threads created in the past few weeks

im gettin an 06 type s, just cause its newer

best weight reduction for your car = dump your girl if she is fat, and drink diet cola instead of regular. So far my car's weight has gone down 123lbs (122 from my girl + 1 from me)

There are no engine changes from the 05 to the 06 models. They have the same cams.

Please, where do you come by this information?

While on the subject of changing RSX's, today is the first time I ran across this information:

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Edmunds.com &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">
What Edmunds.com Says: Rumors that the RSX would be dropped from production are totally unfounded as Acura plans a full redesign of the vehicle for 2007.

What We Know: There appears to be little justification behind recent speculation that Acura would be phasing this small coupe out of production, as the company plans a redesign of the vehicle which could appear on the market as early as 2006. The 2007 RSX will be fully redesigned on its current chassis, which will probably be tweaked in lieu of a replacement. The vehicle will get all-new sheet metal and possibly a revised cabin. Hopefully, Acura will do something to upgrade the vehicle's 2.0-liter inline four as well. </TD></TR></TABLE>

This appears to contradict the information that came from Honda employees in North America that Acura was thinking about replacing the RSX with a 2-door version of the TSX.

The Edmunds information seems to indicate that they've decided to forget that idea and go ahead with another smaller McPherson RSX design.

I guess Edmunds knows what they're talking about.

Even if there were plans for a TSX-based double wishbone coupe, the initial reactions to the 2006 Civic Si design shows us that people would probably buy an Acura version of that car.

The vtec.net model matrix as of right now is still showing the information that most of us felt was correct, that 2006 would be the last year for the DC5 RSX.

You answered your own power question in your thread. lol You found it lost power due to a new method of measuring it, but then you ask how it lost it. LMAO.

Yes! I was just at the dealer yesterday. My friend was looking at the 06's, I have an 05. Other than it costing $100 more the only difference is how they RATE the hp. The actual hp has not changed.

heres a link for the differences including the 05 civic si. i didnt know what the sae standards was all about, therefore i should have done more research, instead of assuming it had anything to do with ca emission. at this point it looks like only acura, at lease that i know of, is following the new sae standard.
