I seemed to of ran over a rock and it is rammed between the tread of my tires and it is causing a slow leak. If the rock comes out, I am up the creek with a flat tire, so I need to get this fixed asap. Do the plugs that they sell work well enough to warrant fixing it? It is a 215/45/17 tire so I want to see if I can fix it before buying a new tire.

I have seen the plug kits but I wasn't sure how reliable they were for the long haul. The hole doesn't look to be huge, but it isn't a pin hole either.

kinda scary, but its do-able.
dont go on a long trip without a new tire...

 

Just take it to a tire shop man. They usually charge 5 bux to fix it. (where I live)

 

Yea I know that is an obvious option, but I wanted to hear other experiences for the long haul as I haven't had them fix a low profile tire before.

Flat tires + lowered cars and living in the mountains can = stranded if you can't a jack under the car So I want to be as careful as possible.

 

i am a mechanic and we put em in tires all the time, just put one in a 40series beemer tire. I would do it on my own tires if it were them....they are probably better than the actual tire itself , go for it, save the $xxx.xx and spend it on the motor

actually take 5 or 10 bucks and get yourself a tire repair kit from whatever autoparts store you like most and keep it in the glovebox, you will thank me when you get a flat in bumble and you can get air for your tire, but no tire repair man in sight

 

I've used repair kits all the time. Never had a problem, and I've used them on stock tires, 40 series, 35 series, etc. If you put them in nicely, they will last the life of the tire.

Keep in mind they only work on the tread area and not the sidewall.

 

i'd take it to a tire shop and have them patch it. rocks don't leave round/uniform holes and the plug could still leak. if it was a nail or screw i'd just say plug it.

 

deffinetly buy a plug. i plugged one tire about 5000 miles agoand it holds air better then the other three. plus it only costs about 5.00 for a good plug kit.
