Default Omnipower coilovers on my 89 DX

I'm buying these from another member and I would like to know if anyone can tell me just how low i can go before i risk damaging the coilover....

also, people have talked about recalls and such... can someone give me an idea of what i shoudl do to find out if my "new" coilovers are affected by the recall?

thank you

-Erik

I heard the problem with the Omnipowers is the shocks are that well designed inside. Im assuming that, if low enough, the shock will start to leak and you'll have to turn them in to get brand new ones. Also with the CRX, im not sure its with the civics, the front won't go as low due to the forks that are needed (EG forks).

How about the Ksports or D2? DRFlickner has a 1 year warranty on them and has them on his CRX. They ride pretty nice.

they've fixed it so you don't need eg forks now... but it sounds like they are still usingt he same shocks which have just been machined at the bottoms to make it work... the shock is too long... so you have to dial out the preload to lower the car much and thus you lose the "full travel" feature of these coiloves....

i'm wondering if i'm making a mistake. maybe i hsould just get the h&r ultralow's like rob has... only issue with that is they cost twice my budget.....

has ayone slammed their crx or hatch with the omni's? how are they holding up?

No you can't slam the front. Good luck trying though Search the suspension forum. I'm shure you'll make up your mind there.

unfortunatly i've almost made my mind up to stick with my stock shocks and cut springs until i can afford the h&r ultra lows.........

i was hoping someone had a secret and would enlighten me since i wanted to get the suspension "done" before fall....

bought the omnipowers. i'll deal with them as best i can. my spings aren't hacked much, just lowered about an inch and a half... it rides the same as stock for the most part... actually seems slightly stiffer but who knows.. i need "real" suspension the cut springs were just supposed to be on for a month or two while i saved a few bucks and thy served their purpose well.

well they aarrived via FedEx today and i just installed them... very stiff... you guys weren't kidding... i like it but it will take some getting used to as this is my only functional vehicle right now.

i'm still trying to better understand preload and all that jazz but for the most part i'm very happy with them.... we'll see how i feel in a few days after i finish setting ride height and so forth.

what new ones ? I heard they just made new collars ? the whole shock body is too long..its not the collars... The new collars dont barely do anything.

i had the same problem w/ my crx and the omnipower coilovers(they didnt lower the front end of the car much at all compared to stock), but the shop i got them from got ahold of omnipower and they sent me 2 new shock bodys for the front and after i installed the new shock bodies the car sits where i want it(lower than the old ones that i originally got).

so i would recomend getting ahold of omnipower and tell them ur sitaution and hopefully they'll send the ones i got.

first of all yeah a slammed car looks good but its going to ride like hell.. the crx dosent go low with the exception of the ultralows but in my opinion i'd rather have a tuned supension that rides well than one that looks good and makes my kidneys hurt.

i know.... your crx looks pretty nice on those ultralows.... in fact, i think i'm in love.... lol the thing is, this is my daily driver/beater... i drive 5-10 miles a day... it's not a pretty car, it's not worth much of anything, so i couldn't justify spending the money on those h&r's but if i can't get this resolved you better believe i'll do my best to get a set one day.

i'm going to call them tomorrow and see if their is a newer model out that will fix this situation. i was pretty ill before. now i've calmed down quite a bit and i think i could reason with them assuming a fix is available.

i just hope they won't need me to ship my 2 front coilovers back before they ship new ones since this is my only car i can drive everyday....
