just bought a 91 hatch dx need some help please
Ok I just bought a 91 civic hatch for 500 bucks :-D. It runs good but theres a couple of problems I cant figure out. Im sorta new to the world of honda's ive been reading up to learn some more. Ok my problems are 1. My night interior lights wont light up I checked the fuses and there all good everything works fine even the dome light. My second problem is that when I put it in gear it moves around (if you move it) it doesnt stay in put the way its supposed to be. Can anyone help me? Ive searched and I've seen that many people blame it on the dimmer switch is this true? Also my speedo doesnt work is that a factor? Thanks for all the help its really appreciated.
could need new interior bulbs... sounds like you need a new tranny... speedo could be the cluster or it could be a sensor, vss.
the tranny runs good.... doesnt grind when going into gears...ive revved it pretty high and slammed it into gear before I bought it and it went in perfectly. Could it be a bushing or something?
it doesnt slip out of gear it stay's in gear. What im talking about is it feels like its in neutral when its actually in gear. It moves around a lot but stays in gear. My sister's 96 ex coupe does the same but her's grinds when you pass 3K going into third. Mines doesnt do that. Im really confused also where can I find the vss??how much does it cost to replace? Im thinking of putting a SI cluster in my hatch but the write up that I found states that he did it in a CRX and that hes not sure if it will work on a hatch. Any info on this? Thanks
Get an si cluster since its got a tach and you can see if its the cluster, the vss, vehicle speed sensor, do a search to find out about it.
how do I check my interior bulb for my dash? my dome light works fine hazards work fine. do I have to take out the cluster? any help would be appreciated

yes a faulty dimmer switch will cause ur dash to not light up..since the power has to go through the dimmer switch before it gets to the cluster...if the dimmer switch is not working the power stops and does not reach the dash lights...make sense?
also about the stick feeling loose my old dx used to do the same ****...replace ur shifter bushings with polyurethane ones and it will feel fresh again...have u checked if ur vss is even plugged in? yes a crx xluster will work...but make sure that the years are matching...an 88-89 cluster will not work in a 90-91 car unless u rewire everything and thats a pain in the ***...

i forget the name of the company...its energy something...they probably have the bushing kit for EFs..how badly is ur vss cord corroded?if it is just the surface, lightly sand it down so that the connection will be good again and plug it back into the vss..its on the top of ur tranny on the firewall side...the cord should be just long enough to fit into one hole...im sure u will find where it is suppossed to go..
