Need help importing a CRX
First off I did a seach
Th information that I found was really not that helpful. I have already spoken with my states DMV and the USDOT. the USDOT told me that it would be impossible to register the car I find this very hard to believe since there are members on this site and others that have JDM CRX's tiltled and registed in the US.
From my understanding I would have to get a registed importer to modify the car then it would have to pass the EPA test and form there I would be able to title the car.
Only problem is I am having a hard time finding a Registed importer that wants to deal with honda's all of them that I have spoken to deal with higher end cars.
Could any one that has been through this process please share you story and fill me in on how you got the car legal in the US and titled.
Thanks

Yeah I checked them out last night.
Here's the problem for US citizens according to what USDOT told me today is even though the car is legal in canada, (since they have the 15 year or older rule) when you were to import the car from canada to the US they would still consider the car being a japan import and that would put you right back to square one.
So this is out of the question.
After thinking about this what I think people are doing is bring the car in w/o a engine. This way it can be shipped and delivered as "used auto parts" and then switching vins and registering the getting a rebuilt title. Or they are having a overseas military friend/family bring in the car for them but even this might not work
If anyone else has any idea's how I could get this done without having to spend thousands by dealing with a registered importer please lemme know. Or if you have done this sucessfully please share your story

just so we're on the right page, you are talking about a JDM CRX right? if not and you're talking about importing from canada, then sorry to hear about all the troubles dude. CRX's are crazy common here. in my opinion, i'd just get an EG hatchback. much nicer i think
i think either way it is going to cost thousands, even if you try to do it yourself.

the cheapest you could do it legitly would be probably like $20k.
your idea about importing it as used car parts might work.. but swapping vin's can get you in some serious trouble..good luck

ok here is how you do it you bring it over in peices. I.E: doors off suspension off engine out. **** like that. then you have to have the customs certificate. the cerifiacate is needed. then you put it all back together as a Kit Car. then NO smog required.(i learned the smog part from Car and driver they did it to a Panoz or something like that.
you then need the dmv or chp to inspect the car. brake and light inspection.
that how we did it with my friends EG6.

This is what I am assuming that most people do to get the car registered. However I could be wrong. However I have heard that you have a limited amount of miles that you can drive it each year.

Thanks for posting, However I'm really sure how that helps me if I have no contact info or information on how he is able to import these cars.
