Most people want a lot of large speakers and multiple subs, with some big blinging amps and ****, so I don't even bother. You want to be loud, you want to look cool, or do you genuinely want good sound?
If you really care about the quality, you have to forget everything you think you know. Good car sound comes from several factors. If you have a hatch, you're halfway there. Next, you need only 2 midrange speakers. These speakers have to be aimed toward the driver's ears, as equidistant as possible. They have to have a solid mounting base that doesn't vibrate, and that divides the front of the speaker from the rear. These speakers need crossovers, passive if they're not driven by an amp, active if they are. If you don't use an amp, you need a headunit that truly puts out some power. I'm not talking about the "watts" it claims to put out. But you'll get better sound from a headunit that doesn't have an internal amp as is made to be used with an external amp. Next, you need 2 tweeters, also with crossovers. And finally, you need a mono amp matched to a decent sub, with a crossover. The enclosure should also match the sub, and you should try pointing it in different directions to find the best sound.
So... one head unit, 2 mids, 2 tweeters, 1 amp for the mids, 1 sub, 1 mono amp for the sub and crossovers. Prioritize your funds on the headunit and the amps, and buy decent speakers etc. Don't go wild with the power outputs, just match the components to work together. Dividing everything up with crossovers will give you all the power you need. Don't go wild with the size of the speakers. Around 5 1/4 mids and a 8 or 10 inch sub is all you need.
If you get engine noise, first do your grounds right, make sure you're using good wire, and then try some Magnecor spark plug wires. If you let some place do your speaker wires, they usually use some expensive and pretty wire where it's visible, then somewhere under your carpet they simply splice it to your factory speaker wires. You want to run some good speaker wire from the speaker to the amp, and from the amp to the head unit harness, completely bypassing your factory wiring.

want good sound, buy a solo-baric kicker 12 in a probox, , and a 300 or 400 watt low current pheonix gold amp(mono), an eclipse deck(they have sub woofer features no other deck has), and some 6's in your front doors, and your good to go. I have a hatch so, thats why it sounds good. everybody who hears it, says it sounds like at least two 2 12's and a lot of power. I pieced it together for 560$, and some change for wiring.

i really want to take a picture of my computer room floor so you guys can see all the equipment i actually own.
i have the following:
head unit, alpine 9815
front speakers, many choices, mb quarts, boston acoustics, orion comps
subs, two choices, i have 1 jl 12w6v2, and 3 jl10wo-4
amp, only one jl 500/5
what i was looking for was more of a design idea, not really an equipment idea
when i first went to college (12 years ago) i was a theoretical acoustics major
when i realized i would never get a good paying job i changed to business
anyway, i was just wanting to see some pics of peoples hatch area or maybe some custom door panels/ kick panels.
as i said im really just looking for some ideas
thanks for the advise so far and please keep em coming!!!
