d15z1 swap versus mini-me
So, I am an engine tech/swap newb, of course. But what the hell is actually the difference between a full swap and a z1 head on a b2 block? This is totally disregarding transmission and other factors, of course. But really, will these two rock the gas mileage equally or will swapping the hole damn engine give better gad efficiency. Thanks for the help.
Its actually a Z6/Y8 head on a B2. The wiring isn't all that hard as long as you have a OBD0-OBD1 conversion harness. Your Fuel effeciency will be affected assuming you went from the DPFI on the B2 to the MPFI for the Z6; but not by much.

I'll answer this for you, even though we've talked about it via IM.
The z1 head on the b2 block will yield a compression ratio of 12.3:1. This is great if you want to run a race car, but rather chitty for gas mileage considering you have to run 91-93 octane to prevent knocks.
The solution is to either get the whole engine and put a EF tranny on there to avoid converting to hyrdo, or to use your b2 block but swap in the pistons/rods from the z1. The bore/stroke are the same for the two blocks, so the pistons and rods will fit. You can use your b2 crankshaft and just put in the pistons/rods with new rings.
Of course, this is a lot of work, and could leave you without a car for a while. If you had an extra b2 block laying around you could do this yourself and then throw the z1 head on there. or you can pull a block from the junkyard, which in my area costs $50 plus $25 core. add the time needed to pull it, as well as the hassle of pulling the old pistons, installing new ones, and hoping you didn't screw up because you've never done this before (always happens to me) and you might be better off with a full swap.
Butif you have lots of time on your hands, I'd recommend just putting the z1 pistons and rods (p07) into your b2 block. youd' also get a rebuild block out of it
