Default Electrical problem, batt light off!

I've searched but can't find a clear answer. I've got a 91 CRX that doesn't appear to be charging, but the battery/charging light doesn't come on after the car is srarted. I can start the car with jumper cables, but when i take them off the car dies. This leads me to believe that the altornater is bad, only problem with this theory is that the battery light goes off when car is running. Any ideas, this is really pissing me off!

Did you try a new battery? Or at least have the one your using tested. It might be completly Shorted out and pulling such a big draw from you ALT, that the car cant run. Seen it happen a few times befor. I would check there First then check for amperage at the wires.

Would it be worth it to try another alternator even though the charging light goes off? Bump
