D SERIES TRANS
Okay I've searched for like 3 hours for a post but i cant find it. This is the question i currently drive a 99 civic coupe ex 1.6 V-TEC now im doing an auto to manual change i've found all the parts and everything. But i do not know which tranny i should put in i know i have several options. I needs some opinions as well as facts. I do remeber seeing a post on best gearing is someone could refer me to that much apreciated. I am using this car as a track car and i am sticking to single cam i need a tranny the does pull hard so

From what I have seen around on here the best D-series tranny is the 96-00 EX tranny or a 92-95 Si tranny. I am not sure if they are the same tranny but they are the ones with the shortest gears for best acceleration.
Here are the specs I have on the EX tranny:
transmission code: S40
1st gear: 3.250
2nd gear: 1.909
3rd gear: 1.250
4th gear: 0.909
5th gear: 0.702
Reverse: 3.153
final reduction: 4.250
Hope this helps some
Just saw your from Philly, what part u from?

use the y8 tranny. vtec long block with vtec tranny.. but it also depends on what you doing to the motor. NAtune or forced air....
what i would use is a tranny with the shortest gear ratio. faster you run through your gears the faster you get down the track...
people say use long gear ratio for turbo car...
to me that means they dont shift fast enough... good luck

Shorter gearing = better acceleration, the method of engine build does not matter (NA, FI, etc)
Also with shorter gearing the engine revs faster and this means your reaction time on shifting will be less as if you shift too late you will bounce off the rev limiter. With FI, this problem can be multiplied as the engine will rev even faster and you will need to be more precise with your shifts. I hope I explained this clear enough and didnt give any misinformation.
