Default Is Hondata considered a piggyback or standalone?

As the title states. Sorry for such a n00b question. I am under the impression that Hondata is considered a piggyback because it 'branches' off of an exsisting factory ECU that has been chipped. I'm comparing this to the AEM EMS or Apexi Power FC which, I believe, replaces the factory ECU all together.

Am I on the right track or completely off base? Just want to get the facts straight.

TIA

Hondata = Piggy back
Stand Alone literally stands alone with no factory ecu.

So based on the info I stated in my original post, I AM on the right track?

Thank you for clearing it up.

I suppose by strict definition, Hondata is a piggy-back system. I just have difficulty classifying it as such because of the risk of it being grouped with such devices as the Apex'i V-AFC and the Field SFC-VTEC controller, which are obviously quite different in terms of functionality.

I totally agree. "Technically" Hondata is a piggyback however classing it with the VAFC, etc would sound inappropriate.

Funny how this topic is kind of touch and go. Could Hondata be in a class of its own?

I would consider NepTune/Uberdate/Crome/Etc more a piggyback system then Hondata. The Hondata system uses the blue box to process everything. Even s100 had the lil blue box in the ecu. W/O the main brain Hondata is useless. Hondata even sells it's on version of the P28.
