Default What stand alone is the most cost effective?

I was reading up on the hondata series of stand alones and i read something about having to buy additional equipment like the rom editor to tune the engine yourself? so i was wondering if it would be more cost effective to go with the aem ems system?

If you have to ask this question you can not tune your own car anyways - so it doesn't matter what system you buy.

the best ecu you can buy is MoTeC. Although, others will argue its AEM since it uses stock sensors and wiring harness.

The Many Options to Choose From:

I think the best in overall (cost, practical, performance, tuners) is the following:

Hondata (many people can tune Hondata now, and it won't be so bad to tune yourself if you get the new S300 system)

AEM EMS - Cheaper than Motec, and it uses stock sensors and everything.

Some others might be better, but unless you are all out racing and have all that money to waste, why bother? Some people like Autronic, but then you have to learn to use it yourself, and not many people use it. So many tuners won't tune with it as opposed to Motec and AEM EMS.

IMO Aem is the best overall. i do agree that Motec is the best computer but as far as being user friendly i'd go with aem. No one else has the tech support that they do. Theres a whole forum dedicated to people helping each other out. Tuning an ecu isnt easy so its nice to have some help when you run into a prob.

see so now im up in the air between the ems and the s300. these are the 2 that im really considering right now so if anyone has the pros and cons on both of these could you let me know? but for now it looks like i might go withthe hondata due to the fact that the s300 is 600 versus the ems at 1200 but im waiting for someone to prove me wrong.

Can you run a wideband o2 sensor on a Hondata? What about a datalogger? What if you wanted to go distributorless with 4 coil packs and run an ITB manifold with 8 fuel injectors and progressive nitrous control with a 3 step rev limiter and launch/traction control? Just in case you want to get crazy the AEM is far more flexible than a Hondata.
