Default Hot brakes = drag

My rear disc brakes drag after a short session of spirited driving. I am running autozone's cheapest rotors along with some pro-grade raybestos pads. only the rears drag and smoke. I also have a 40/40 prop valve and an ex MC. they are fine once they cool down and for driving around town. I've bled the brakes a **** load of times and there is absolutely no air, or leaks anywhere.

I had a similiar problem with my friends DC-2, we changed the fluid to DOT 4, my theory was, that because it is a conversion, the rear discs creat more temp in the fluid, which is causeing it to thicken up, and not releaseing the pad as it should, try puttin in DOT 4, its cheap, and I doubt that the quality of the rotors is a factor in this. however, the pads may also be the culprit. If the pads have too much 'bite' then when the rotor isnt at proper opperating temp, and the pads are, then it may stick. Assuming you have the same pads front and back, the front are less inclined to stick, due to the power from the drive train to free the rotor.

Goodluck

Check your caliper before you begin driving. You could have one that simply sticks. Or you may just have a pad with too much material on it that won't completely release without contact.

Yeah, but for both of them to stick at the same time? The thing about the pad sounds right, maybe I'll change them out with some ceramics, and make sure everything is lubed up.

Any other ideas?

Thanks guys.

ebrake cable is fine, it only happened once the brakes got hot.

I know people are going to say something but slotted and drilled rotors will help, I run those on my car with stock pads and whatnot and the car stops better imo, I do a lot of hard braking so I was having similer proplems to you after driving a while the brakes lost efectivness by a lot, so I put some Rota's on there and it stops like a champ again.

I got mine off e-bay for about $200 shipped.

Do not change the fluid to DOT 4. DOT 3 is the recomended fluid. I had npo problems after my rear conversion and I used the DOT 3. Sounds like the e brake cable is set too tight.

define drag.

Also, check the tension on the e-brake cable, possibly relubricate the rear calipers, and if the pad is sticking to the rotor (your not using the best quality parts) you might want to hit the rotor with some sandpaper, and the surface of the brake pad with it as well.

P.S. DOT4 is FINE and its a better fluid. what i think you mean is do not use DOT5 on our cars, as our rubber brake lines dont like the silicon **** in the DOT5 fluid.

DOT4 is better, try it if youd like.

They rear discs won't let go after braking hard(repeatedly)
-the e-brake cable is a bit on the loose side, so that wouldn't affect it
-I will start with some caliper lube, since I don't remember using any.
-if that plan fails i will get some ceramic pads, and get my brembo blanks in there since I have no probs with that setup up front.

I doubt both caliper could fail at the same time as it heats up.

It was the caliper lube. My **** was sticking in the higher temps.

Thanks a lot guys.
