Sunday at rock falls my cuz blows his motor. Can anyone diagnose what happened and suggest where we could start looking?
99 Civic SI w/ original B16A motor
Mods: Skunk2 ECU, Intake Manifold and cam gears set 2 deg. advanced.
AEM intake fuel rail and FPR set above stock (I'm not really sure what the setting was at but he turned it up before the races), ITR Throttle Body, Full cat-back (Unsure what brand name but it doesn't matter).
I'm pretty sure the suspension doesn't matter in this case as well..... duh..... but an important thing to know is that this vehicle is running on stock internals and the stock head.
He was complaining a bit a couple months earlier about how sluggish his car has gotten. I didn't really notice any diff, but then again, I'm not the person driving it everyday.
Ok, he did a couple of runs but was only able to hit mid 15's. Now this is pretty weird because the last time he ran he was running 15 flat consistently. A couple more runs and he still can't pass the 15.6 mark. On his last run something blows and white smoke pours out from underneath his car as soon as he passes the 1/4 mile line. His vehicle shuts off and won't crank anymore and has to be towed back.
What did we notice? Smoke (White) coming from the intake manifold area. Oil has appeared in the overflow reservoir. Doesn't look like the T-belt snapped. Looks normal w/ the valve cover off.
The Skunk2 ECU offers a 9800 RPM rev limiter. He was at 9500 when everything shut off. Now, like i said before to him, it's not safe to be up that high with the stock valvetrain.
What do you guys think happened? Could it have possibly been a result from the raised rev limiter in combination with the stock head? If it is a valve-piston contact would the bottom end need some repair? Is the motor salvageable (head and bottom end)?

he was reving a stock b16 with stock cams to 9500 lol??Is he ****** retarded? I bet you snapped a rod, tear the engine down. Im guessin because he was beating the motor like it was a street bike your sleeves are prob done 2....Happened to my itr motor, except I had skunk2 stage 2's and was revin to 8500.
No one can tell what happened until you pull the head. Just because valves look ok with the valve cover off half the time you cant tell if there bent. Also im pretty sure he blew the head gasket and if your lucky that might be the only thing.
Either way stock valvetrain should stay with stock rev limit.

Teardown starts next weekend. Were you able to salvage anything from your ITR motor?
Yeap, nobody listens to me. I mean, what do I know about Hondas right? I drive a Maxima! Pff!

probably broke a rod and it broke the cylinder wall that would let oil into the coolant. tear it down and find out for sure. tell him to buy a gsxr then he can rev like that all day.
