I don't know if they are, but the stock can cost up to $500. I had the same thing happen to me. If your deductible in your insurance is $250 or below you should have the insurance replace it with the comprehensive coverage. Otherwise you will have to pay it yourself or settle for an aftermarket one.

actually last time I checked with the dealer I was thinking about changing my rear windshield for a LS one (beacuse it has the antenna built in to the defrost) and they told me all the glass were the same for 94+.

ITR glass is supposed to be different (thinner=lighter)

Call acura and see if the part numbers are the same for the R vs. GS-R

Really...wow. I didn't know that ITRs were that special. Everything down to the glass.

My friends ITR is clear all the way to the top, while my GSR windshield is tinted at the top,and no, it is not an aftermarket strip, its in the glass.

acutally the ITR window is slightly larger then normal teg windshields. How do I know, well a shop tried to put a new window on my car a it didn't fit right. It had a small gap on each side. They called Acura and realized that they ordered a window for a normal teg and not one for a type R. So they ordered a new one and it fit correctly.

I got a package policy on my car with only a $50 CAD deductible. I changed my windshield last year for $50 CAD ($31.25 USD for my american brothers)...and that included a new windshield gasket.

You can't beat that!

well $500 thats american i assume... thats expensive cause my dealer quoted me $620 cdn installed

In florida, your insurance has to give you a new windshield free of charge. Every time i get a rock chip, i get a new one, about once a year(damn trucks )

What? I'm thinking someone was trying to cover for a mistake. I will say in my case, they are exactly the same. I should know - I'm on my 4th windshield!

One of the cool things about aftermarket glass - you can get a factory style tint band at the top.

Call your Acura dealer. Part numbers for '00 GS-R and '00 Type R are identical. The "thinner windshield" does exist, but not for the US market. Probably not DOT legal here (ie not safety glass).

Ask your agent about glass breakage coverage. Some include it on all policies, some under comprehensive.
