Car:90 crx dx converted to obd1
Engine:92 b18a
ECU:pr4
Ok...let me start off by saying that ive had this engine in the car for about 6 months. lately the car has been acting really weird. The ecu is throwing code 14 which is the iacv. Ive changed the iacv to a known good one and it didnt help a thing. I noticed that the insulator on one of the wires was cut right at the plug...so i took it all apart and and rewired it...which did absolutely zero good. I havent ran a wire straight to a9 yet but im gonna do that in a few minutes. If that doesnt work then im really gonna be stumped. Ive got a s2 IM so im not running an fitv. Also...could the iacv be causing my car to run rich?
The car is also burning oil, coolant, and running rich all at the same time(which is taking a toll on my plugs and 02
). I cant figure out how im burning oil and coolant at the same time...ive changed my oil a bunch and i havent seen a drop of coolant in it. So my hg is probably still good. I dont think its the valve seals because if theyre bad the car will usually burn oil at idle and/or while decelerating(from my experience anyway). Ive got arp head studs but i didnt retorque them like some people say you should do...but if that was the problem i think id have coolant in the oil.
Parts ive replaced:Fuel filter, all vac lines, iacv, 02, IM-tb-iacv gaskets(but they were cheap...i need to get better ones), pcv, timing belt & tensioner, cap & rotor, plugs, wires, spark plug o-rings, cam seals and vc gasket. And thats just in the past month or so...every other gasket and coolant line, etc, was replaced when i put this engine in(and i mean EVERYTHING was replaced...i learned my lesson with my other 2 engines
)
Im not a mechanical genius or anything...but ive been messing with hondas for a long time. Ive never had so many things go wrong at once like this. It makes it practically impossible to troubleshoot. One day my smoke will be more whitish, some days blueish, some days blackish. I keep saying "ish" because it burns everything so its never really one solid color
Sorry for the long post but i really need some help...this has been on ongoing thing for over a month and im fed up
. And sorry about posting in 2 forums...but i really need all the help i can get. If the moderators say its a problem i will delete one of the posts.

Well your head gasket could be singed and that's what's causing it to loose coolant. As far as the oil goes I don't know. Go back to your wiring and recheck everything, also it's very important to check you grounds.

Ive checked all the wiring and its fine. I just re-did the ground system so i know thats not the problem. This things just got me stumped
i know you dont want to hear this but, try search for code 14 and burning coolant. it might take a while of research, but that's what has worked best for me in the past
Well if you are burning coolant, oil, fuel. Coolant and oil could be headgasket. Otherwise TB or intake manifold gasket could be leaking coolant and blue smoke perhaps bad rings or a bad valve seal (which usually like you said will smoke when it has been sitting or when you go from an idle).
Fuel have you checked your timing to make sure it is on?
IACV. when you replaced it was it with a brand new one? I know in factory manuals they will say how to troubleshoot it to pinpoint it. do you have access to a service manual? Perhaps you have lines hooked up wrong on it.
Also when does it smoke these certain colors?

I really do need to replace my IM and TB gaskets with something besides those cheap auto zone carboard deals. I want some of those thermo gaskets but i cant find anyone that makes them for the LS. I was thinking about getting one for the b16...id have to cut 3 different bolt holes though. I thought outlaw was gonna make them for the LS but i havent seen any yet.
The iacv i used wasnt brand new but the car i took it off of wasnt throwing any codes. And i know its not the lines because i tried them both ways.
And it smakes certain colors whenever it wants. There isnt really a certain temp or speed or rpm that it does it...its sorta random.
Thanks for the replys....and keep them coming

have you done a compression test?
I am guessing headgasket personally. If its your tb or your intake look for coolant leaking around it. look at the inside of the TB and see if its in there.
Are you sure your ECU is functioning correct?
You said you are running obd1 with a pr4 ecu? did you wire it correctly or did you get a wiring harness?

I did a compression test but the numbers were astronomically high because there was oil in the cylinders.
And im pretty sure the ecu is correct...but i can throw another one in there to make sure. It was rewired for me by a guy that wires airplanes for boeing...so im pretty sure its ok. besides...it ran right on the first 2 engines

well if you put oil in it and then checked your piston rings are good and probably your hg too. Could be the valve seals/guides or even the valves themself.
check out your TB and IM gaskets for leaks though.

I didnt put oil in it...the engine was kind enough to do that part for me
. I guess i need to go take off my IM and TB and check to make sure there arent any leaks. Now that i think about it...when i took off my iacv i noticed that the screen was clean as a whistle. Which is odd considering every other iacv ive seen with alot of miles on it had carbon built up all over it. I wonder if it was like that because there was coolant getting sucked in?
