Default What Kind of System are you guys running ?

Ok in response to my other thread on wether a decent sound system is attainable in an R or not. I have decided to ask another Q.

What kind of sound equipment are you guys using in your R's and what do you think of the Sound Quality provided ?

and this is type R specific cause i figure Type R's would probably sound diff to most in regards to sound systems.

Ill start with mine

HU : Pioneer 550MP3
Front: Speakers JL XR650CSI
Back: Stock

wont rate it yet cause i have only 1/4 finished the install of the JL speakers.

Real simple here. I replaced the stock 4 speakers with some pioneer pieces which run off my JVC player, then I added a 10" JL sub in the hatch w/ 200 watt amp. Played with the settings until I was happy with clarity and thats it.

Even if you don't want huge bass(like me) , you still want a sub as it fills the cabin and makes the overall sound 100X better.

#198 is keeping it clean. All stock accept for 10" JL audio sub in the hatch with 250W Kenwood pushing it. Doesn't sound as good as the Sony 15"s and Alpine headunit in my Blazer but it's an ITR. Speakers = weight = slow you down

I had the factory head unit and speakers, but added a small amp and a 10" sub. The sub helped a lot, but by no means was it a quality sound system.

After I somehow destroyed my stock unit (would no longer play CDs)

I just installed some high powered Sony Xplod deck and already I noticed a sig. improvement in sound QUALITY....as well as quantity.

My cheap *** might go for some used MB Quart components I have been offered.... it's not likely I will install an amp or subs....

I'm happy with my ICE "mods"

I replaced the factory head unit and speakers with a 2.0L all motor setup. The bass is handled by a 3" Thermal exhaust. If I want more volume I just push down on the skinny pedal.

-Pioneer head unit
-Boston Pro 6.5" separates in front
-No rear speakers
-Self amplified 8" Bazooka Tube (removes easily for auto-x/track events)
-Digital XM Radio tuner controlled though head unit

Works great for me, although nice and simple.

Stock head unit
stock front speakers
MB quarts in the rear(only because I got them free with the car) If they blow, I wont use them. PITA install, and I hate electric.

Stock head unit using adapters into a Rockford 550 watt amp under passenger seat.

Kicker 5.5's in front doors (factory tweeters installed)

JBL 6.5's in rear seat

Rockford Punch 12's in trunk.

It looks bone stock but will blow you out of the car. Phosgate gets a lot of negative press today, but I went that way as they have always been good to me and were the stuff in my day. I also have two Phosgate 12's in my boat. It is a cabin cruiser so the enclosed cabin really makes the base nice. I have been happy with their products for over 20 years.

worst car ever for a quality system. Just get speakers and a sub that can outplay the road, wind, engine noise. My speakers distort before they outplay my i/h/e on the freeway
