More Dyno Day Blues
We did another 4-5 S2k`s at my event this weekend. Most lost power, or made nearly stock power with various mods. One did 175 with hot-air intake, insert name here____ ceramic header, VAFC, and single exhaust. Fidling w/ the VAFC might have helped a bit, but it was obvious that the intake and header were power robbing show pieces . Like I said before, the best mod I`ve seen was a $50 drop in filter.

Ozy our webmaster dynoed stock at 203whp, and after comptech s/c and comptech exhaust got 286whp
He just installed a vafc and is bringing it back to the dyno soon....

i like the s2000 and all, don't get me wrong. but you spend all that money for... ? glamour? are most s2k owners buying them for a daily driven luxury conv? or a sports car? i just can't see 286 whp after a sc being very impressive. my friend's sc'ed gsr is just about the same whp.

what size pulley and what kind of supercharger is he using where he can pull that out of a b18c1? I think that is the main difference here. If you put a 12 psi pulley on the s2000 it will probably make a lot more power too but we are talking about daily driven reliability being sacrificed.
. It handles like no other Honda and gets a shitload of attention. Fun stuff

edit: s2k = good attention my car= bad attention haha[Modified by IM ALL SHO, 3:59 AM 3/13/2002]
BMW usually under-rates power output on their engines; perhaps to avoid embarrassing Cobra Mustang situations. Those Ms are probably making 265+ at the crank and BMW only claims 240.
I swear....it seems like Jeff's dyno always pulls off lower numbers than expected. Maybe it's just me...
Everyone tells me that you should do the runs in 4th gear. Why does he choose 3rd?

Are you saying that you have yet to see any mods GAIN power on the F20C? Wow. We have put 3 on the rollers down here and all have picked up power. Not too much gain from Spoon header and exhaust, but stock is so efficient anyhow. Biggest gains have been from upgaded filter and VAFC. Eagerly anticipating our set of Toda F series camshafts, too. FWIW, I have seen 198-211 at the wheels.
95% of the cars I`m speaking of just had i/e and/or header. The majority were also poor choices and/or weird combos. Example: mugen intake, spoon exh, and dc header=lost power. The majority of the s2k folk seem to be newbies and basically just spend their cash on whatever they read about on the net.
I think you can definetely make some power w/ the f20c. I agree that cams should help. The NA route is going to be very tough though. I can`t justify the gains made w/ the amount of money you really need to spend to do it right. If you want a fun daily driver, I`d go w/ the SC. If you want to turn, I`d just spend money on susp, brakes, and instruction. In regard to the turbo kit, if I had 8k to spend I`d just buy and EF and build a motor for it. The only thing a turbo`d s2k is going to be good for is going straight and I can do that faster in a Civic and still have a reliable, daily driven s2k

Man, all I gotta say is.. if I had an S2K.. I would get the lightweight driveshaft and the rear end gear from Spoon.
mooonnneeeyyy....
oh, and Topspeed Performance here in Naples just finished a turbo S2K.
we'll see how it does on the dyno in a few weeks.
T3/T4 with custom turbo manifold(made in house by Josh@Topspeed), Spearco intercooler, 5psi... AVC-R, fuel pump, etc...
i think she dyno'd at 202whp stock.. strong motor from the factory.
