can i do it? use the DX dizzy w/ one sensor short
i have waited 3 weeks FOR BUNGER to send the damn thing.
i have all stuff on manifold + proper ECU.
would it cause drivablility problems? this is a DD and i need the car. i know i would would have a CEL and a revlimiter. but other than that any problems?

it wont work, your car wont crank up at all with a DX dizzy, try and find a HF dizzy, its the same part as a Si dizzy but they usually go for alot less because its a HF and people dont realize its the same.
Thanks for the suggestion. In a conversion writeup I read the 2 additional wires from the Si/HF dizzy go to the ECU but it doesn't explain what they do, as in what information, voltages, etc. are the 2 wires providing to the ECU.
I am prety sure that they are two very important wires..
You basically have the two new ones from the Si Dist, two new injector wires, wires to the resistor box, TPS and re-pinning of the ECU...

I would be cautious about buying a used distributor. I bought a used dizzy for my MPFI swap and the thing ended up crapping out on me and I had to buy a new one. Just think, if you buy a used OEM one, the dizzy has been on the car between 14-17 years. Just something to think about, I found this out the hard way $$
i wired up a dizzy off of a dpfi sohc zc and it worked, but i only did it cause i was trouble shooting and thought my hf dizzy wasn't working, and i had em side by side so i just looked at what went where and wired it up and didn't use the other two wires. then i figured out it wasn't the distributer and used the hf. but it did work.

so i shouldent do it untill i get it. i allready paid the guy and it's been 3 weeks since. ok.
mine worked good and it was closer to 3 yrs old not 14. I just swapped motors and sold my a6 to a friend thats doing mini me so he didnt need it. If the other guy doesn't come through let me know i will guarantee it to be in great condition and work fine. If not i will send the money back.

The two extra wires are for cylinder position sensor..
This is necessary for the ECU to sequentially trigger the fuel injectors..
On a ZC,this sensor is located on one of the camshafts so
a five wire distributor should work for that particular application
but not for a D15 with mpfi conversion or a D16a6...

Thanks for the info, it is allways nice to actually know why something has to be a certain way. If it's just a matter of which cylinder is firing, etc. so the ECU triggers the appropriate injector it seems it might be possible, with modification (like a seperate circuit), to get that from a DX dizzy but may require more effort then it's worth. Anyway thanks again, that is great info.
