timing belt/water pump question?
hey my 92si just rolled over the 90k mile point and i had the timing belt and waterpump and balance shaft belt replaced.
since those items were replaced something in that area is making a whining sound. sounds like a supercharger whine?
any ideas why it would be making noise?
thanks

The belt may be tentioned too tight. Just ride it our for a couple hundred miles, it'll fade away. Many of us have had the whine you're talking about, and its normal(given its installed properly)
i would verify that the whine is coming from that area, i personally would not ride it out, i would remove the upper plastic on the timing belt and make sure it isnt walking and also be able to check the tension

Hey you know what, I just recently replaced my timing, water pump, seals, cam seals, all that mess. Well anyways when I was done I had the exact same problem. My neighbor which had tons of expirence working on cars told me that its the tentioner belt. (The little belt on the bottom) this is all he did, he took of the power steering pump and grabbed a screw driver and pushed down on the little belt to make the tentioner flex. I fired up the car and it was gone. I was amazed.
its your ballancer belt.......it is tightened too tight for sure... it had happened to me also... take off the bottom belt guard and loosen the balencer belt a little... it should be a little loose... not loose enough for you to be able to take it of though.
my friend's car had the same problem, the drive belt was too tight, so the alternator made that winding noise. As soon as I got it loosened to where its supposed to be, the noise went away.
the alternator on my car got wet and for a while i was like wtf is that sound. it turned out that the regulator went out and it was making that crazy super charger noise.
