Took Azenis 615's to the track - mixed review.
Pros: They behave at the limit and offer just as much ultimate grip if not more than the previous Azenis. The track was extremely hot today, and the tires didn't get greasy or anything, however...
Cons: I got some minor blistering on the tires, both front AND rear. The blisters aren't any bigger than the size of dimes. Also saw some small cracking between the sidewall and the tread portion of the tire.
I'll post pictures if you guys want.
Edit:

I was too lazy to see what the hot pressures were sorry. They felt right (I go by feel to determine under or over inflation), so I just left them where they were. However, my pre-track pressures were 32 front 35 rear, I wish I could provide more information, why do you ask anyway?

I was asking because thats generally a sign of overcooking the tire. 32/35 cold could be too much for the 215's on a really hot track, you want to keep them under 40psi hot - I would run them as low as 29/31 cold. I blistered 215's once on a fairly abrasive track surface, with too much pressure and sliding the car too much - it just killed the tires.

Yeah, good advice. I thought the 615's were supposed to be a little better with respect to this problem. Guess not? I should try lower pressure next time.

When I took my 615s up to Willow Springs in early June, they survived just fine. I'm betting you pushed your car harder than I did, so that might have had alot to do with it. I ran them all day in the heat without any cracking, blisters, or the tires greasing up. I've also never ran the 215s, so I can't make the comparison. I started them at 35 psi front and rear, but continually bled them back down to 38 every so often. Just throwing my experiences out...
Those aren't blisters. That's just track rubber. In fact, given the extreme lack of track rubber on the inside edges of the tread blocks and the still "dark" appearance I'd say the tires held up just fine and really didn't get that hot.
If you really overheat a street tire it'll turn this sickly light grey almost bluish color. E39 M5's can do this really easily with their 2 tons and 400bhp.

Ok, I guess the tires held up pretty well then. Yeah I was pushing pretty hard - doing my best to remain either traction limited or engine limited as much as possible.
bah, those tires are fine. i don't even see any worms on the outside edges. don't even worry about it.

Ditto! You got some OPR on those tires (Other People's Rubber). Also known as 'track worms'.

Mine cracked like that at Pacific Raceways this year on Aug 1st. Didn't notice any blistering though, just the cracks, and it was only on 1 tire. Probably the front right which takes alot of abuse that that track.

I would say they're 10x better in that regard. I've only used my spray bottle once this season.

I was thinking the same thing. I have a lot of those 'blister' looking things on my tires, but it's track rubber. For whatever reason, the 615s seem to pick up whatever rubber is in their path.

Last time out my 215s picked up a CRAPLOAD of track rubber on the rears, the fronts had a bunch too but it all seemed to come off on the drive home, but I agree thats what it looks like.
As other people have said above, I would not worry about them.
My cliff note review after a couple events... They suck. The feel great just below speeds, but once start to push them, they just die a slow death. I have tired hot pressure of mid 40s and mid 30s and they still sucked. However there suckyness was consistent throughout the day and the side wall seems alittle stiffer then the 215s. Generally I was 1.5-2 secs off what I usually run at Gman and Waterford. For my next event I am going to borrow a firends 615's for a session just to double check my thoughts..

those "blisters" ..
aren't they normal?
i mean for any street tire you push for extended periods on the track
I know I got that on my es100's last track event i went to.
Those cracks are alittle worrysome though.

Me and ryan talked about this a bunch recently... I'd say 215's get his stamp o' approval.
