Hey guys I have had my 95 DX auto for about 2 months now and have had nothing but continueus overheating, i have replaced:Radiator, Hoses, Fan, Fan Relay, Fresh Coolant, Brand new Honda Brand Radiator cap. Now here is the story the thermostat is coreless as in the core is removed and it still overheats, it overheats very slow, not fast it takes a good bit, if you run the heat the car won't overheat it runs right at the proper temperature. I so sick of this I am ready to just get rid of the car, this is the second honda I have had that has been nothing but problems. Anybody got any ideas, besides a blown headgasket, as that has already been tested and its not blown.

 

Did you consider replacing the thermostat with a new one just to have everything "new" instead of a rigged thermostat?

 

yea i replaced the thermostat several times with honda brand ones and it will still overheat with a brand new thermostat, it just warms up quicker with the thermostat

 

ill give you $800 for it

 

did you bleed all the air out of the system, thats about the only thing you didnt mention

how did you test for a blown headgasket? cause a compression test and leakdown test can often miss it if its slight. i would start teh car and let it idle and watch the coolant overflow for bubbles. even hold the car at like 4k rpm for several minutes. if you see any bubbles poppoing out in the overflow you got a blown head gasket.


also, i see a lot of people complaining about probelms with their cars and htey are doing all their own work on them. sometimes takign the car to a shop that does car repair all teh time for a living is the way to do it.

 

Bad waterpump?

 

-check to see if the radiator is clogged and not flowing sufficiantly.
-bleed the coolant , with engine cold take the rad. cap off and fire your car up and let it run for 30 min. or so. this should get the air out.
-make shure the overflow is not filled to the top.
$mine ended up being my radiator having 4-5 runners clogged completly.I could fill it up with coolant and would not flow out the bottom.
-underfilled coolant.
-good luck, dont give up on honda's just because youve had a couple w/ some prob. after all it is 10-11 years old.

all the work has been done by a shop, it bubles slighly at idle **** i guess its a blown head gasket, well looks like i am selling it

 

why not just go get a head gasket and get the head milled , drop it on there w/ some arp head studs. take them to 65 ft./lbs. and your done.
-head gasket -55-80 bucks (new from honda)
-head milled - 60-80 bucks
-arp h/s - 100 bucks
-labor - - free
but its your car so do what you want.

 

i don't do work on cars, so changing the headgasket is out, and the car isn't worth changing the headgasket, i guess it still runs as long as you want to drive with the heat on
EDIT: anybody ever use that gasket and radiator sealer stuff they sell? I am gonna try that.

 

well in the future i would recommend a different shop. you want one that fixes problems not throw parts at them at your expense.
