Default Anyone running ebay header/downpipe/muffler combo?

So my GF just brought home a 93 del sol auto, all I can say is DAMN its slow lol. Its cool though cause she loves it and Im sure it will last forever. Anyway she always chews me out cause Im always working on my fire breathing RX7 and she just sits there twiddling her thumbs, well anyway she wants to work on her car with as like a bonding thing or something. My question to you is, Are those ebay $140 header/downpipe/muffler packages any good? I did search and got 57 hits and went through each one and pretty much only got "you get what you pay for" and she by no means is going for performance. I just want her to feel like I took the time to do something special on HER hot new car. Pretty much I want to know the quality and how it sounds.

PS If your to embaressed to admit that you bought a ebay kit you can e-mail me at rx7wheelman@yahoo.com

Thanks in advance. Im sure you will help to make her day!

If she's not big on performance but just want a little bit more power then the ebay setup is good enough for her. Only thing I would be concern is the quality of each parts since some are not well known.

Thanks for the quick responses guys, I figured that the ebay wouldnt be any worse so Id just look into the quality to make sure the headers wont come cracked or something. Is there anyone who can chime in who has bought it>?

you will be fine. if anything, you wont get the 12 horsepower from a '3-times-the-price name brand part', you'll only get 10horsepower.

beware on this forum as you will usually get bombarded with such idiotic statements as "dont buy off ebay, get the JDM parts which cost 100 times as much y0"

people seem to think that no name parts sold on ebay are made of tin foil and soldered together or something

no no no dont buy it, the header they sell is crap, so is the down pipe. I have had mine on for 4 months and the thing is a rust ball looks like **** and is a piece of ****.. I would suggest looking a little harder on there as i got a holly airmass header for 125$ i think. As far as the "high flow cat" goes, those are fine, my friend has ones(i wont buy one because i think they are useless) and it basically is a test pipe, it will make the car smell like **** also and put a lot of black yuk on your back bumper.. I have bought an intake off of ebay "the cheap ones" and personally i had an AEM and the things seem identical besides the AEM had a "cool" blue paint job on it.. i say just get the ebay parts you will be fine, im not embaressed for buying them, i see no reason to spend 300$ on a header that can perform and look the exact same as the one i bought for 125$ new..

When my dx exhaust mani cracked I went to ebay and bought my a no name header and tsudo cat back. It's been over a year now and so far no problems. the header and cat back are stainless steel. The only problem that I had was fitment. One of the hangers on the exhaust vibrating against the frame of the car and when shifting into fifth it would hit a hanger, but easily fixed with a dremmel.

I am sure that name brands greddy, dc sport, apexi, and so on do give you better proformance, but where as you GF just wants "bonding" time and not really going to race it ebay is the place, my .02

my cat back sounds good as hell way better than an apexi, ( to me they look like a fricken cannon ball launcher and have a shitty raspy sound) my muffler is little tucked under nicely so you cant really see it and produces a nice non raspy sound and only costed 250$ shipped...if u get the "high flow cat" its going to make any set up sound like complete ****, test pipes normally do that so you wont be able to avoid the bad sound if u run a test pipe

I say go for it. I wanted to do the exact same thing for my girl on her CRX SI and ended up buying a cheap short ram and axleback from ebay and a no name header from a user on here.

We bolted on the intake and header before doing a baseline at Total Performance where she made 106hp to the wheels on a dynojet dyno. Installed the header last night and it actually feels stronger. Will probably dyno again this weekend to see if we gained 1-2hp.

Another thing you can do to "bond" are the DIY projects. In the last few weeks we've painted her rims, wrinkle coated her valve cover, intake pipe and timing gear cover and blacked out the headlight housings on my EJ. As it turns out, she's a big help.

Forgot to add that we installed a set of cheap springs (dropzone) not to long ago as well.

Just my $.02

You get what you pay for. You are better off buying a muffler of your choice and then having it welded up to your car. (Replacing the whole pipe basicly make your own catback) I bought an axle back wouldn't fit right had to hack off the muffler and do what I said. But I am going turbo so I will actually invest in a true catback 3" mandrel bends but I need it. I have some dc header and I cannot tell a difference.
