Am I missing something in the rulebooks for t4/SFWD class? I don't see anything about spools being prohibited

yeah, I was thinking otherwise. I think it was battle or IDRC that didn't allow it right?

 

Spools suck when trying to turn. I really wish i didn't put one in my car. Go with an LSD

 

spools in street class

i suppose there could be some crazy ******* out there daily driving with a spool, but i think it's going too far.

 

whats wrong with a spool in the street class? a lot of the quicker cars are running them.

 

it's personal opinion more than anything, i would never discredit anyone that does run a spool. i just think a spool is one of those parts that brings a car farther away from a true "street car" status. granted most of the street cars at the top of there classes are pretty much dedicated race cars anyway. again, personal opinion.

 

"street class" should be just that.

UGH, PLEEZE. Here we go again.
T4/SFWD have a set of class rules. We don't write them, we build the cars to follow the rules. If you want to have a fast car for the class, you build a race car that follows the class rules, not a street car that fits in the class. You could run a bone stock SRT-4 in the T4 class but you'll get your @$$ handed to you.

If NHRA SportCompact changes the rules next year and says, "no more spools, and you have to run full systems including SONY XPLOD subs in the trunk", then thats what you'll have to do.
But then, you'll complain because the cars don't run A/C, so their not true street cars.

Yeah they do suck but affective unless some breaks. Im to poor to buy a sppol so I welded my diff and I used to drive my car around town with it work races wherever. Pain in the *** but i always get the jump even on AWD cars most times.

 

"street class" ? when was it illegal to drive a car on the street with a spool? i drive on the street with it and it doesnt really bother me. im used to driving a car slammed on 18's and it has the same wide turning radius

 

i dont see anything wrong with running spools in the street class..i just hope all that are running them are using decent axles to go along with it...im sure we all know the results of a broken axle+spool..

 

I personally think it goes against the spirit of the class. Most people can't and don't run one in the car on the street. The majority of teams that do use them trailer the car everywhere and don't drive it on the street at all. I would like to see a rule put in place against them.

Right, I am speaking from experience. I don't run one anymore, I run an LSD.

The funny thing is a Welded Diff. is "illegal" in ALL sactioning bodies.

So what. It doesn't go against the rules of the class. Personally I think going faster wins over keeping the "spirit of the class".

wrong.. why is there a turbo size restriction?

but on the topic of spools.. i didnt realize they were legal.. is there really any major gain in using one over a quaife??

 

Switched from a spool to a LSD in a Pro All Motor car and lost nothing in the 60'

 

I run a spool..In the pits with slicks its a bitch turning but otherwise i really dont have any problems, even on the streets..A spool could cause a accident on the track if an axel breaks and you didnt react fast enough to it ..If you ran an LSD it would free rev the motor..Some better safety issues with a LSD than a spool and some easier turning at times but no performance gains..I might switch here soon to a quiafe just for alittle less aggrivation..

Street classes are all about spirit of the class. Pro classes are for those that want to push the very edge.

Because that is a class rule. What don't you get? If they make running an air freshener hanging from the mirror a class rule, then you put an air freshener in your car. If there was no limit on turbo size, then you'd see bigger turbos. It's just that simple. If there was no limit on tire size, then you'd see 28 x 10 slicks on these cars too. If you are interested in building a car to win the class then you build it according to the class rules. Anything less and your just another guy that runs in the class. If we all raced according to the "spirit of the class" then we'd all be running small slicks and bolt-on GReddy turbo kits. The sanctioning bodies are the ones that draw the line, not the people that compete in the class. Everyone's version of a "street car" is different. This topic is old and lame, and should go away. This thread was originally about spools. They're legal.

Anyone ever break a spool ??? Since street cars are usually heavier than pro cars, would a spool break if your axles were bullet proof?

 

There are alot of other things that will break before a spool. IE axles, gears, axles, gears.
